The 3M 7500 Series is a reusable half face respirator facepiece built for repeated daily use. In this trade it is worn for mould remediation, fire and smoke damage restoration, chemical decanting, hard floor stripping and sanding, and any job where a disposable P2 is not enough. This listing is the large size, 3M part number 7503.
The facepiece is bought once and maintained. Filters and cartridges are consumables and are ordered separately, which is what makes the 7500 economical for a crew that works in dust and solvents week in, week out.
About the 3M 7500 Series facepiece
3M Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator 7500 Series is a premium facepiece with a 3M Cool Flow Valve, a soft sealing surface for comfort, and a dual-mode head harness for either standard or drop-down mode. 3M 7500 Series is AS/NZS 1716 compliant with a wide variety of 3M bayonet-style filters.
3M Reusable Half Face Mask 7500 Series has a soft silicone sealing surface that has been specially designed with the wearer in mind. The 7500 Series features the 3M Cool Flow Valve to help release warm and moist exhaled breath from inside the respirator. An exhalation valve cover helps direct exhaled breath and moisture downward. The adjustable head cradle and straps work together to offer a personalised fit. The drop-down feature allows the respirator to be taken off in a non-contaminated environment without having to remove a hard hat. The 3M Reusable Half Mask 7500 Series can help reduce exposure to a broad range of gases, vapours and particulates when used with approved 3M bayonet-style filters. Connects with most 3M 2000, 5000, 7000 and 6000 Series filters and can be used with 3M Powered and Supplied Air Systems for increased convenience and flexibility, including TR-600, TR-800 and V-300. Replacement spare parts are available to help maintain the right level of comfort and protection when parts become worn or damaged. Available in three sizes: small, medium and large.
Why professionals choose it
- Silicone face seal, which stays softer and more comfortable over a long shift than a thermoplastic seal
- Cool Flow exhalation valve to vent warm, moist breath and reduce fogging and heat build-up
- Exhalation valve cover directs breath and moisture downward, away from the work in front of you
- Dual-mode head harness: standard, or drop-down so the mask can be removed in clean air without taking off a hard hat
- Twin filter design for lower breathing resistance than a single-cartridge mask
- Serviceable - straps, harness, valves and cartridge holders are replaceable rather than the whole mask
Sizing
The 7500 Series comes in three sizes and they are genuinely different facepieces, not the same shell with different straps. Getting the size right is the difference between a mask that seals and a mask that leaks around the chin or the bridge of the nose.
- Large - 7503 (this listing)
- 3M 7500 Series Half Face Respirator - Small (7501)
- 3M 7500 Series Half Face Respirator - Medium (7502)
If you are buying for a crew rather than yourself, medium suits the majority of adult faces, with small and large ordered to cover the outliers. If you have access to fit testing, size on the test result rather than on the label.
Filter and cartridge compatibility
The 7500 uses the 3M bayonet connection. From 3M's technical data sheet for this facepiece:
- Gas and vapour cartridges: 3M 6000 Series (excluding 6098 and 6099)
- Particulate filters: 3M 2000 and 5000 Series, plus 6035 and 6038
- Combination: 5000 Series particulate filters fitted over 6000 Series cartridges using 501 retainers
- Supplied air: SA-2100 regulator (excluding 5925, 6098 and 6099)
The cartridge CCW stocks for this mask is the 3M 60921 Organic Vapour/P100 Cartridge/Filter (1 Pair), which covers both particulate and organic vapour - the usual combination on a mould or fire job. A half mask takes two cartridges, so one pack fits one mask.
Important: cartridges and filters are not interchangeable between brands. CCW also stocks the North 7580P100 Particulate Cartridge, which fits Honeywell North facepieces and will not fit a 3M mask. Approvals apply to the complete assembly from one manufacturer, so mixing brands voids the approval even if a cartridge appears to twist on.

Fitting and use
A tight-fitting respirator only protects the wearer if it seals. Under Australian practice, AS/NZS 1715 covers the selection, use and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment, including fit testing of tight-fitting respirators and the requirement for a documented respiratory protection program in the workplace.
- Do a user seal check every time the mask goes on: cover the cartridges, inhale gently, and the facepiece should draw in slightly and hold.
- Facial hair across the sealing surface will break the seal. Stubble is enough. There is no workaround, so a bearded worker needs a loose-fitting powered air system instead.
- Adjust the head cradle first, then the neck straps. Over-tightening the straps distorts the seal rather than improving it.
Use limitations stated by 3M
- Do not use in atmospheres containing less than 19.5% oxygen.
- Do not use against contaminants with poor warning properties, or where concentrations are unknown or immediately dangerous to life or health.
- Not approved for escape use.
- An adequate seal cannot be achieved over beards or long sideburns.
Maintenance
The 7500 is designed to be serviced rather than thrown out. Clean the facepiece after each use, inspect the inhalation and exhalation valves for splits or debris, and store it sealed and away from the contaminated area rather than loose in the back of the ute. 3M lists the following replacement parts for this facepiece: 7580 replacement strap, 7581 head harness, 7582 inhalation valve, 6583 exhalation valve, 7586 cartridge holder, and 504 cleaning wipes. CCW does not stock every one of these as a catalogue line, so contact us to check availability before you plan a service.
Frequently asked questions
Does it come with filters?
No. This is the facepiece only. You need a pair of cartridges or filters to make it a working respirator.
Which size should I order?
Medium suits most adult faces. Order small for a narrower or shorter face and large for a broader or longer one. If your workplace fit tests, use the test result. A mask that is the wrong size cannot be fixed by pulling the straps tighter.
Is it approved for use in Australia?
3M's technical data sheet for the 7500 Series states compliance with AS/NZS 1716:2012 under the SAI Global Standards Mark certification programme. Note that the approval status of the filters and cartridges you fit is a separate question - check those on their own product page.
Can I use it for asbestos or silica work?
Respirator selection for those hazards is driven by the exposure assessment and by the regulator's requirements in your state, not by the facepiece alone. The 7500 is a half mask with an assigned protection factor lower than a full face or powered air system. Speak to your safety adviser about the required protection factor before assuming a half mask is sufficient.
How long does the facepiece last?
There is no fixed life. Replace it when the silicone hardens, tears or takes a permanent set, when a valve will not seat, or when a seal check fails and cannot be corrected. Servicing the wear parts extends it considerably.
How do I clean it?
Wipe down with 3M 504 respirator cleaning wipes, or wash the facepiece in warm water with a mild detergent, rinse and air dry away from direct heat and sunlight. Remove the cartridges first - they are not washable and water destroys them.
Not sure which size to order, or which cartridge suits the job? Call Carpet Cleaners Warehouse before you order. Respiratory protection is the one line on the order where a guess is not worth the saving, and we would rather spend five minutes on the phone than have a mask that does not seal on site.
