Why this gasket is doing more than it looks
A vacuum motor gasket is a seal in the vacuum path, and on a small machine every leak matters disproportionately. A 3-gallon spotter has a modest airflow to begin with; a motor gasket that has hardened or been reused is a leak straight past the tank, and the operator experiences it as a machine that has "gone off" without any obvious cause.
It is also a mounting cushion. The gasket isolates the motor from the plate, and a motor bolted down without a serviceable gasket transmits vibration into the housing — which is both noisier and harder on the motor's own bearings.
Always replace it when the motor comes out
This is the rule worth taking away. The gasket has taken a permanent set to the old joint under clamping load, and it will not seal the same joint twice.
Whether you are replacing a motor, chasing a suction loss, or just cleaning the machine out, if the motor comes off the plate the gasket is a consumable. It is inexpensive and having one on the shelf is the difference between a job finished and a machine sitting in pieces.
Chasing suction loss on a spotter, in order
- The hose and hand tool — a blockage or a split cuff. Most common by far.
- The hatch cover gasket (10-0302-A) — a lid that no longer seals.
- The float assembly (10-0304) — stuck up, or debris holding it partly closed.
- The motor screen — loaded with fibre.
- This gasket — hardened, cracked or previously reused.
- The motor itself — last, not first.
Sandia's stated warranty on this machine
From the manual: lifetime on moulded components, five years on the vacuum motor, five years on the pump, and five years on all electrical components. That is the manufacturer's stated position — check with us before assuming a part is covered, because normal wear items and damage from neglect or abuse are excluded.

No.
Is this the same as the 6.6 Optimiser gasket?
No — those are 10-1030-S2-025 and 10-1030-S2-66, different parts for different machines. Check the machine before ordering.
My spotter has lost suction. Is this the cause?
It can be, but work through the list above first — the hose, the lid seal and the float are all more common.
Taking a spotter motor out? Order the gasket with it — you will need one and it is the cheap part of the job.
