The end that takes the load
A spring-loaded pole is compressed between floor and ceiling, and the foot carries all of that against the floor. A damaged or missing foot plug puts bare tube onto a customer’s floor — which marks vinyl and timber immediately — and loses the friction the pole needs to stay put.
