What the springs do
The motor is mounted on springs so its vibration goes into the springs rather than into the machine housing. A broken or collapsed spring lets the motor sit hard against the frame, and the whole machine starts to drum — which is unpleasant, loosens fasteners over time and shortens the motor’s life.
Replace them as a set. One new spring against three tired ones leaves the motor sitting out of level.
