Tramex CME5 – Concrete Moisture Encounter
The Tramex Concrete Moisture Encounter is a non-destructive meter for measuring moisture content instantly in concrete slabs per ASTM F2659, and giving comparative or equivalent readings in other cementitious floor screeds. Easy to use, giving precise and repeatable results, it allows multiple tests over a large area in the shortest possible time.

The CME5 is a survey instrument. It finds the wet areas of a slab quickly and non-destructively, which is what tells you where in-situ RH probes need to go. It is not itself an ASTM F2170 or AS 1884-2012 relative humidity test, and no impedance meter is.

Frequently asked questions
CME5 or CMEX5?
The CME5 reads concrete and cementitious screeds on an analogue dial and pairs to the app over Bluetooth. The CMEX5 is the digital version and adds a built-in ambient RH sensor plus ports for in-situ Hygro-i2 RH probes and pin probes, so one instrument covers the non-destructive survey, the ASTM F2170 RH test and timber. If your reports need RH numbers, the CMEX5 saves buying a second instrument.
Can readings be taken through a coating or adhesive?
They can, but Tramex is explicit that readings taken on slabs through paint, coatings, adhesives or other surface materials are qualitative or comparative, not quantitative. Quantitative %MC requires a clean, bare, dust-free slab.
Does the CME5 need calibration?
The measurement is not user-calibrated. A calibration check box is available for verifying the meter reads correctly, which is worth doing periodically where readings support a report or a warranty claim.
Why does it have spring-loaded pins if it is non-destructive?
They are contact pads, not penetrating pins. They keep the electrodes in contact on an uneven slab surface so the signal couples properly. Nothing penetrates the concrete.
