Oily Type Paint Remover is an NVDS spotting agent that is slow drying and penetrating to assist with the treatment of small or large paint-affected areas. It is particularly suited for use against built-up stains such as ink and lipsticks.
Slow-Drying by Design
Oily-type paint deposits need dwell time to soften, and a fast-evaporating solvent flashes off before it has done the work. A slow, penetrating agent stays wet long enough to break the film down — so give it time rather than reapplying repeatedly.
Important: Read the Safety Data Sheet
CCW's listing calls this an NVDS (non-volatile dry solvent) agent. Stelco's current Australian SDS (October 2025) shows toluene (30–60%) and white spirit (10–30%) as the main ingredients, a flash point of 4 °C and the signal word Danger — so treat it as a highly flammable solvent, not a non-volatile one. We have asked Stelco to confirm the NVDS description.
Hazard statements include highly flammable liquid and vapour (H225), harmful if swallowed, in contact with skin or if inhaled (H302 + H312 + H332), may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways (H304), suspected of damaging the unborn child (H361d) and toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects (H411).
- Ventilate. The SDS calls for local exhaust ventilation or an organic vapour/particulate respirator where there is an inhalation risk.
- No ignition sources. Keep the container closed.
- Gloves, protective clothing, eye and face protection. Check the SDS for glove material.
- Keep it out of drains and stormwater.
A Textile Spotting Range
Stelco Chemicals International (Rowville, Victoria) supply this range for professional textile and dry-cleaning spotting, and their safety data sheets give that as the recommended use. Carpet and upholstery cleaners use the same chemistry on the spot, but a spotting board and a steam gun are not the same as a carpet in a client's home — rinse and extract thoroughly, and keep solvent out of the backing.

Method Matters More Than the Product
Apply to a white towel rather than pouring onto the carpet where you can. Work from the outside of the spot inward so you do not spread it. Tamp or agitate gently rather than scrubbing — scrubbing distorts pile and leaves a permanent mark that is more visible than the original stain.
Rinse and extract afterwards. Spotter residue left in the pile attracts soil, and the spot comes back as a dark patch a fortnight later — which the customer reads as your work failing.
Before You Use It
Read the safety data sheet for this product and follow it. Solvent-based spotters in particular require ventilation and appropriate gloves — check the SDS for the glove material, because it is not always the same across products.
Always test on an inconspicuous area first. Fibre, dye and backing all react differently, and a spotter that is safe on nylon is not automatically safe on wool or on a solution-dyed synthetic.
Frequently Asked Questions
Oily Type or Instant Paint Remover?
Oily Type is slow and penetrating for built-up stains and larger areas. Instant Paint Remover is for fast removal of fresh paint.
Will it remove ballpoint ink?
Stelco list ink among the built-up stains it suits. Blot, do not rub — ink spreads easily — and test for colour fastness first.
Can I rinse it out with water?
It does not mix with water. Let it work, blot out what it releases, then clean and extract the area so no oily residue is left in the pile.

Not sure which spotter the stain calls for? Tell us what it is, what the fibre is and what has already been tried, and we will talk it through — the wrong first move on a spot is much harder to recover from than the spot itself.
