Overview
Pulse-actuated chemical pump rated to 3000 psi, supplied by CCW as Sapphire part SS-46-089. It is a General Pump 101067 pulse pump. It bolts to an inlet valve port of the machine's high-pressure plunger pump and draws chemical in on each stroke, then delivers it at system pressure. No separate electric chemical pump is needed.
This is the replacement pump for any machine whose manual lists one of these part numbers: SS-46-056, SS-46-089, SS-46-060, SS-36-424, 111-184 or 111-161. They are the same pump under different catalogue numbers.
Some older machines were fitted with the lower-pressure 1500 psi General Pump pulse pump. CCW does not stock that version. This 3000 psi pump is a direct replacement for it in all truckmount applications.

Source: General Pump 101067 pulse pump data sheet (Ref 310018 Rev D, 04-23). A US distributor also lists a maximum temperature of 190°F (88°C). The General Pump data sheet does not state a temperature limit, so confirm it against your machine's manual.
How it works
The pulse port connects to an inlet valve port on the drive pump through a special valve assembly and adapter. When the drive pump plunger moves back, it draws the pulse pump piston back and pulls cleaning solution in through the pulse pump inlet valve. When the plunger moves forward, the piston pushes the solution out through the outlet valve into the system.
- The pulse pump will not draw chemical if the drive pump inlet is pressurised. Inlet pressure to the drive pump should be zero or negative, and never above the drive pump's own limit.
- Chemical flow depends on the flow and pressure of the drive pump. To adjust the amount drawn, General Pump specifies a metering valve in the pulse pump discharge line.
Fitting and start-up
The drive pump needs one of its standard inlet valve plugs and that valve assembly removed. A special valve assembly (with a through hole in the plastic cage) goes in its place, then the adapter with a 3/8" NPT male thread that suits your drive pump. Thread the pulse pump onto the adapter and turn it until the inlet and outlet ports sit where you want them.
To start up, open the metering valve (no back pressure) and run the drive pump. Check that the pulse pump is primed and pumping before fitting the nozzle and setting pressure, then adjust the metering valve to the mix ratio you want.
Wear parts
General Pump lists these service parts for the 101067:
- 101081 repair kit.
- 710029 piston seal kit.
- 720069 spring.
- 103162 pulse pump valve assembly (two per pump).
- 520390 piston (two per pump).
CCW does not currently stock these as separate items.
Do not confuse this pump with the older 1500 psi pulse pump. That pump uses a diaphragm, which CCW sells as Sapphire EPDM chemical pump diaphragm SS-36-000 (General Pump 700033). The 3000 psi pump on this page is piston and seal based and does not use that diaphragm.
Troubleshooting
If no chemical is drawn, General Pump lists these causes: system not primed (an airlock between the drive pump and the pulse pump piston, or in the inlet line), failed seals, or foreign material in the pulse pump inlet and outlet valves. If supply is limited, check for a restriction between the drive pump and the pulse pump, a restriction in the metering valve, or worn inlet and outlet valves.
Frequently asked questions
Which machines does it fit?
Any machine whose parts manual lists 46-056, 46-089, 46-060, 36-424, 111-184 or 111-161 for its chemical pump. If you cannot find the number in your manual, send us the machine model and serial number and we will confirm it before you order.
Is it the same as 111-184 or SS-46-056?
Yes. All the numbers above refer to this pump.
My machine has the older 1500 psi pulse pump. Can I use this one?
Yes. CCW stocks only the 3000 psi pump, and it is a direct replacement for the 1500 psi version in all truckmount applications.
Does the SS-36-000 diaphragm fit this pump?
No. SS-36-000 is for the older 1500 psi pump. The 3000 psi pump is rebuilt with the piston seal kit and repair kit listed above.
Do I need an adapter?
The pump mounts to the drive pump through a special valve assembly and adapter. On machines that already use a pulse pump these are already fitted. General Pump publishes adapter and valve part numbers by drive pump series in the data sheet linked above.
Can I rebuild it instead of replacing it?
Yes. General Pump supplies a repair kit (101081) and a piston seal kit (710029), plus replacement pistons and valves. Replace the whole pump if the stainless body is scored.
From the workshop
No chemical draw doesn't automatically mean the pulse pump has failed. This pump relies on the pressure pulses from the main solution pump, and a pressurised inlet to that pump can stop it drawing chemical altogether. Before ordering a replacement, check for air in the chemical pickup line, a blocked metering valve or a pump that hasn't primed properly. A new chemical pump won't fix a problem elsewhere in the system.
Not sure this is the right pump? Send us your machine model and a photo of the pump and we will confirm it before you order.
