Sapphire Scientific 370EFI Truckmount (In the Box Package)

The Sapphire 370 EFI is a slide-in truckmount built around a Kohler Command PRO EFI engine. It replaces the earlier 370 with electronic fuel injection, a longer service interval and a five year limited warranty on the components that usually decide whether a machine is worth keeping.

Sapphire position it as their most economical machine to run. We have not independently verified their fuel and cost savings figures, so what follows is what can be checked against Kohler’s own documentation.

The engine

The Kohler ECH749 Command PRO EFI is a horizontal-shaft V-twin producing 26.5 hp (19.8 kW) at 3,600 rpm from 747 cc, with peak torque of 54.2 Nm at 3,000 rpm.

The 300 hour service interval — and its condition

Kohler specify a 300 hour oil and filter change interval for this engine, with no break-in oil change required. That is genuinely three times the interval of a conventionally serviced engine.

It only applies if you use Kohler PRO 10W-50 synthetic oil and a Kohler PRO Extended Life oil filter. Kohler’s service manual is explicit: 300 hour intervals are authorised only on engines using both. Fit an alternative oil or filter and the interval drops to 100 hours for oil and 200 hours for the filter.

Worth knowing before you budget on the longer interval, and worth telling whoever services the machine.

Critical exhaust components are coated with Cerakote ceramic coating, which Sapphire state lowers exhaust component temperatures by more than 30%, making the van cooler and safer, plus ensuring less wear on truck mount parts. The 370 EFI also includes the Sapphire Scientific patented heat exchanger and cooling belt technology.

With the 370 EFI, you get a comprehensive coverage of 2-year parts and labour plus extended 5-year limited warranty on heat exchanger, frame and waste tank.

Sapphire’s savings figure is calculated on United States fuel, oil and service costs over five years and has not been verified for Australian conditions.

Comparing the Sapphire Scientific truckmount range

All three machines are governed to the same 13 in. Hg vacuum relief setting, so their airflow figures are directly comparable. Weights below are from the owner’s manuals and are stated on the same three bases for each machine.

Where the decision sits. Airflow sets drying time and how far you can run hose. Pump pressure matters for hard surface work. Around 1,000 psi is enough for tile and grout, so all three machines are capable of it — the 870HP’s 2,500 psi gives more margin on heavily soiled or textured surfaces rather than making the job possible. Liquid cooling on the 570 and 870HP sustains solution temperature under continuous load where an air-cooled engine tapers.

Weight matters before you choose a vehicle. Operating weight includes water but not accessories. Check it against your van’s payload capacity — gross vehicle weight rating minus kerb weight — before ordering, and talk to us if you are close to the limit.

Part numbers

Catalogued by Legend Brands as 128144, Sapphire 370EFI Truckmount. This is the standard build, with the 90 gallon waste tank, and it is the one CCW carries.

Legend also build an HC version, 128278, which is the same machine with the larger 120 gallon waste tank. CCW does not stock it, but we can order one in — ask us about lead time before you plan around it.

Frequently asked questions

What vehicle do I need?

Work from operating weight, not console weight. Check your vehicle’s gross vehicle weight rating, subtract its kerb weight, and that is your payload capacity — the machine, tank, hoses, water, tools and chemicals all come out of it. Talk to us with your vehicle before ordering.

Who installs it?

We do, or an authorised representative by prior arrangement. Installation covers mounting, exhaust routing, plumbing and electrical, and it is not a job to hand to a general workshop.

There are warranty ramifications if it is installed incorrectly. A machine damaged by a poor installation is not a warranty claim, so arrange the install with us before the machine arrives rather than after.

Why is airflow quoted at 13 in. Hg?

Because that is the vacuum relief valve setting on these machines. Quoting CFM at a stated vacuum is what makes the figure meaningful — airflow measured at a lower vacuum will always look higher and tells you nothing about performance at the wand.

Does higher pressure mean better cleaning?

Not on carpet. Carpet cleaning happens at relatively low pressure with heat and dwell doing the work. On hard surface, around 1,000 psi is enough to clean tile and grout — higher pressure gives more margin on heavily soiled or textured surfaces, and lets you work faster, but it is not what makes the job possible.

Match the serial number on your machine to the ranges listed under Documents. Sapphire revise the manuals as the machines change, and the differences matter for parts and service.
