Important: MERV Rating

CCW has previously listed this filter as MERV 8 (and the page address still says MERV 6). The Phoenix 1200 owner's manual lists 4020550 as a MERV-7 pleated media filter and says the machine needs at least a 30% ASHRAE standard filter to protect the desiccant media. CCW is confirming the rating of current stock with Phoenix. The part number and size are the same whichever rating is printed, so the filter still suits the 1200 Desiccant.

This fitment was previously based on CCW's own long-standing record. It is now confirmed by the Phoenix 1200 owner's manual, which lists 4020550 (24" × 12" × 2", pleated media) as the process air filter.

If you are ordering for a machine you have not filtered before, measure the old filter. Desiccant machines from the same maker use several filter sizes.

Why Filters Matter More on a Desiccant Machine

The desiccant wheel is the expensive component in these machines, and the filter is what protects it. Fine particulate that reaches the wheel blinds the media, and a blinded wheel is not a service item — it is a rotor and seal replacement.

A loaded filter also costs airflow directly, and on a desiccant machine reduced process airflow reduces grain depression capacity. The machine keeps running, appears to be working, and quietly takes longer to dry the structure. The Phoenix manual lists a dirty filter as a probable cause of inadequate airflow.

Other Filters on the Same Machine

Desiccant dehumidifiers run two air streams — process air, which is dried and returned to the structure, and reactivation air, which is heated to drive moisture off the wheel and then exhausted.

On the Phoenix D850, for example, those are filtered by 4022636 (process) and 4027168 (reactivation). The Phoenix 1200 manual lists only the 4020550 process filter as a replacement part. If your 1200 Desiccant has a second filter position, it needs servicing too. Ask us and we will check what the machine takes rather than have you replace one and forget the other.

When to Change It

Phoenix's guidance is that the interval depends directly on how clean the incoming air is, and that the filter should be replaced before it clogs to the point of causing a problem. In practice: between jobs on dusty work — fire, soot, demolition, disturbed insulation. Longer on clean water losses in occupied homes.

Do not wash a pleated media filter. Replace it.
