Genuine Kohler oil pressure switch, part number 25 099 27-S. Stocked by CCW as 29-008.
The oil pressure switch is the engine's own protection. It senses loss of oil pressure and shuts the engine down before the damage is done. A failed switch shows up in one of two ways: an engine that will not run, or an engine that runs with no protection at all — and the second is the expensive one.
Which Kohler engines it fits
Kohler Command PRO:
- Single cylinder — CH11 to CH14, CV11 to CV15
- V-twin — CH18 to CH25, CV18 to CV22
It supersedes Kohler 25 099 06-S, 25 099 24-S, 25 099 26-S and 52 099 06. If you have been quoted any of those numbers, this is the switch to order against them.
Important — it does not fit the KT series engines
Kohler's later 6600, 7000 and 7500 Series engines — KT610, KT620, KT715 to KT745 and EKT740 — take a different switch, Kohler 25 099 36-S. It is not interchangeable with this one.
The two are easy to confuse because both are Kohler oil pressure switches of similar appearance. Check the number on the old switch, or the engine model and specification number, before ordering. If you are running a KT-series engine, talk to us rather than ordering this part.
Which machines use these engines
Kohler Command PRO V-twins in the 18 to 25 hp range powered a generation of truckmounts before the move to EFI. CCW's parts records list Kohler engines of this family for:
- Sapphire 370 — the earlier, pre-EFI machine
- Prochem Legend
- Sapphire Rage
The same engines were widely fitted across other truckmount brands of that era, and outside our industry they are common on ride-on mowers and similar equipment — which is why the switch is straightforward to source.
Identify by the engine, not the machine. The same machine model can leave the factory with different engines across its production run, and the same engine turns up in machines from several manufacturers. The engine model and specification number are on the shroud decal, and they are what settles it.
Symptoms of a failed switch
- Engine shuts down or will not start with oil level and pressure known to be correct.
- Engine cuts out when hot and restarts once cool.
- Intermittent shutdowns under load with no other fault found.
- Oil weeping from the switch body or its threads.
Check the oil first. Level, grade and condition, then the wiring and earth to the switch. A switch that is doing its job correctly by shutting down a genuinely low engine is not a faulty switch, and replacing it would remove the protection that just saved the engine.
Fitting advice
Work to the engine manual for your Kohler. Note the wiring before you disturb it, take care not to over-tighten the switch into the block, and check for weeping once the engine is up to temperature.
If the machine has been shutting down and you are not certain the switch is the cause, have the oil pressure checked properly before fitting parts.

Which Kohler engines does it fit?
Command PRO CH11 to CH14, CV11 to CV15, CH18 to CH25 and CV18 to CV22.
Will it fit my KT715, KT725 or KT740?
No. Those are the 7000 Series and take Kohler 25 099 36-S, a different switch. Ask us before ordering.
Will it fit my Sapphire 370EFI?
No. The 370EFI uses a Command PRO EFI engine, which is outside the range above. Send us the engine specification number and we will identify the right part.
I have a different Kohler part number. Is this the right one?
If your number is 25 099 06-S, 25 099 24-S, 25 099 26-S or 52 099 06, then yes — this switch supersedes all four.
How do I find my engine model and specification number?
Both are on the engine shroud decal. Send them to us with your enquiry and we can confirm the part rather than working from the machine name.
My engine keeps shutting down. Is the switch at fault?
Not necessarily, and it should not be the first thing you replace. Check oil level, grade and condition, then the wiring and earth to the switch. The switch exists to shut the engine down, so a shutdown may be it working correctly.
