Overview
Air cylinder valve for the HydraMaster diverter valve actuator — listed by HydraMaster as Valve, Air Cylinder. Commonly called the diverter ram.
It drives the exhaust diverter valve, which routes engine exhaust either through the heat exchanger or out to atmosphere. When it fails the machine loses temperature control: exhaust stops being diverted through the heat exchanger and solution temperature falls away.

Frequently asked questions
What happens when it fails?
The diverter stops moving, so exhaust is stuck on one path. Stuck to atmosphere means no heat to the exchanger. Stuck through the exchanger means no way to shed heat.
Is it air-operated or electric?
Air. HydraMaster lists it as an air cylinder valve, which is why it is commonly called the diverter ram.
Should I replace the exhaust gaskets at the same time?
If the diverter has to come apart to reach it, yes. Heat-cycled gaskets rarely seal a second time and an exhaust leak on a truckmount is a carbon monoxide risk in the vehicle.
