The 2.5 inch female Flash Cuff, for operators running 2.5 inch vacuum line for maximum airflow. It carries the seal and the push-button lock.

The Flash Cuff Range

Flash Cuffs are a push-button vacuum hose coupling system. Every joint is a male half into a female half; the female carries the seal and the locking mechanism, and the connection swivels so the hose does not wind up.

Seals: Replacement O-Ring (AH204A) fits the 2 inch female cuff (AH204) and the 2 inch reducer (AH201). The 2.5 inch range uses a different ring, AH216A, which CCW does not currently stock.

Why Flash Cuffs Rather Than Screw Cuffs

  • Push-button release. A screw cuff is two threaded joints every time you break the line, in a wet gloved hand. This is a button.
  • It swivels and it locks. Most cuffs make you choose. A swivel that does not lock comes apart on stairs; a lock that does not swivel winds the hose up across a room.
  • Matched bore. The inside diameter of the cuff matches the hose, so the joint is not a step change in the airflow path.
  • Tapered and short. It sits on a hose reel and keeps its shape rather than being crushed oval.

Hydro-Force does not publish dimensions or a temperature rating for the Flash Cuff range. Rather than estimate them, we have left them out.

Operating Advice

  • Push fully home until the button engages. A cuff that is nearly seated holds under no load and lets go on the stairs.
  • Check the O-ring in the female half on sight rather than at failure. A perished ring is a silent leak, and lost lift gets blamed on the machine.
  • Keep grit off the sealing faces. Grit dragged into a cuff scores the seat, and a scored seat leaks with every new ring you fit.
  • Do not lever a stuck cuff apart with a screwdriver. The button is the release; forcing the joint damages the lock.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you stock the O-ring for it?

Not currently. The 2.5 inch range uses AH216A, which is a different ring from the 2 inch AH204A. Contact us before you need one and we will source it.

Why run 2.5 inch at all?

Airflow. Restriction in a vacuum line is dominated by the narrowest section, so a larger line pays off on long runs and high-lift machines.

Will it connect to my screw cuffs?

No. Flash Cuffs and screw cuffs are different systems. Changing over means changing the cuffs on both hoses at that joint.

Does it swivel as well as lock?

Yes, both. That is the point of the design — a swivel that does not lock comes apart, and a lock that does not swivel winds the hose up.

What size hose do I need?

Match the cuff to the hose. This is the 2.5 inch fitting. For 2 inch hose use AH204.

Cuffs get replaced one at a time as they fail, so a van ends up running a mix of ages and, sometimes, a mix of systems. The joint that leaks is then blamed on the newest part rather than the worn half it was pushed into.
