Brush Pro Dry Compound is a ready-to-use deep cleaning dry compound, imbedded with cleaning agents that lift and separate soil from carpet fibres and then absorb it into the compound for easy removal. It is dry and ready for use immediately — there is nothing to mix or dilute.
It comes in a 9.07 kg pail (the 20 lb Hydro-Force pack, product code CC604).
What It Is For
Dry compound cleaning uses very little moisture compared with hot water extraction. That makes it a useful option where water is the problem rather than the soil:
- Commercial carpet that has to go back into use straight away, with no drying window.
- Maintenance cleaning between restorative extraction cleans.
- Moisture-sensitive carpets and rugs where over-wetting risks shrinkage, browning or dye movement.
It is a maintenance and low-moisture method. Heavily soiled or contaminated carpet, and anything needing flushing or decontamination, still calls for extraction.
How Dry Compound Cleaning Works
The compound carries the cleaning agents into the pile. The agents release soil from the fibres, and the compound absorbs it. Once the soil is held in the compound, it comes out with the vacuum.
The usual method with any dry compound is:
- Vacuum the carpet thoroughly first to remove dry soil.
- Spread the compound evenly over the area.
- Work it through the pile with a brush machine — a counter-rotating brush machine is the standard tool for this.
- Allow the compound time to absorb the soil.
- Vacuum thoroughly to remove the loaded compound.
Hydro-Force's current application rate and dwell time are not published at present (see Documents below). Follow the label on the pail, and ask us if you need the manufacturer's directions.
Before You Use It
- Pre-test in an inconspicuous spot, particularly on natural fibres, rugs and anything with unstable dyes.
- Recovery is everything. Compound left in the pile re-soils, so budget the vacuuming time as part of the job.
- Protect adjoining hard floors and skirting from spread compound.
Safety
The manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet (revision 11 February 2022, US format) states the product is not classified as hazardous under the US OSHA Hazard Communication Standard and is not a dangerous substance or mixture under GHS. It still carries these cautions:
- May be harmful if swallowed, and causes eye irritation.
- Do not breathe the dust. Wear protective gloves and eye protection.
- If in eyes, rinse cautiously with water for several minutes; remove contact lenses if easy to do and keep rinsing.
- Do not atomise or use as an aerosol.
- Keep out of drains and waterways. Keep out of reach of children.

Some overseas distributor listings quote pH 9.0–10.0 and a lemon fragrance for this product. The manufacturer's SDS gives pH 5.5 and odourless, which matches CCW's record. We have asked the manufacturer to confirm.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it need to be mixed or diluted?
No. It is ready to use straight from the pail.
How long before the carpet can be walked on?
Dry compound cleaning adds almost no moisture, so there is no extended drying time — the carpet can generally go back into use once the compound has been fully vacuumed out.
What machine do I need?
A brush machine to work the compound into the pile, and a good upright or backpack vacuum for recovery. Counter-rotating brush machines are the standard choice for dry compound work.
Can I use it on wool?
Low-moisture methods are often chosen for wool and natural-fibre rugs because they avoid over-wetting. The manufacturer does not publish a fibre suitability list for this product, so pre-test first and ask us if you are unsure.
Is it a replacement for extraction?
No. It is a low-moisture maintenance method. Periodic hot water extraction is still needed to flush out what dry methods cannot remove.
