Sapphire Glide for 14" Titanium Wand External Fit

Overview

PTFE glide for the Sapphire 14 inch titanium wand, external fit. Sapphire part number 67-084.

A glide is the wear face between the wand head and the carpet. Its job is to carry the head at a consistent height so the vacuum slot seals, and to let the operator move the wand without dragging.

What it fits

Sapphire's equipment schedule lists 67-084 as the PTFE 14" glide for wands 67-080 and 67-081:

  • 67-080 — Wand, 14" Low Profile 6-Jet Titanium "Ergo"
  • 67-081 — Wand, 14" Low Profile 6-Jet Titanium Standard

Important: the 12 inch wand takes a different glide — 67-085, for wand 67-082. Measure the wand head, do not order by machine.

External fit — check yours

This is the external fit glide: it wraps around the outside of the wand head's metal lips. Wands are also made in internal-fit form, where the glide sits inside the lips.

The two are not interchangeable, and the difference is not always obvious until the glide is in your hand. If you have not replaced a glide on this wand before, measure the lips or send us a photo before ordering.

Why PTFE

PTFE has a very low coefficient of friction against carpet fibre, which is what makes a glided wand noticeably easier to push and pull through a long day. That is not a comfort argument alone — a wand that takes less effort gets worked at a more even speed, and even speed is what produces even cleaning.

It also lifts the head clear of the pile, which is what protects delicate fibres from the edge of a bare stainless head.

Wear and replacement

Glides are consumables. Replace one when the face has worn thin enough to lose the seal, when it has picked up a groove or a burr that will mark carpet, or when it has started to lift at an edge.

A worn glide costs you vacuum before it costs you appearance — the head sits lower, the slot no longer seals evenly, and recovery drops. If drying times have crept up and nothing else has changed, look at the glide.

Check the fixings each time you fit one. A glide that comes off mid-job on a customer's carpet is a bad afternoon.

Frequently asked questions

Which wands does it fit?

Sapphire's 14 inch low profile 6-jet titanium wands, 67-080 and 67-081.

Will it fit a 12 inch wand?

No. That takes 67-085.

Is this internal or external fit?

External. Measure your wand's lips if you are not certain.

How long does a glide last?

It depends entirely on the surfaces you clean. Hard, gritty commercial carpet eats glides; domestic maintenance work does not. Replace on condition.
