A portable is a simple machine with four things that fail: the vacuum motor, the pump, the switchgear and the seals. Knowing which one has gone is most of the repair, and having the part on the shelf is the rest.

This range is the parts counter for portable extractors — genuine Ametek motors, Pump Tec and Aquatec pumps, switches, gaskets, gauges and valves.

It includes genuine Ametek 5.7 inch and 6.6 inch two-stage tangential vacuum motors, rubber motor gaskets and spring mounts, Pump Tec valve and O-ring kits, the Aquatec 230 V 220 psi demand pump and its pressure switch, SteamVac and Hawk unloader valves, Valterra gate valves, dump valve gaskets, DPST rocker switches in 4 and 6 pin, pressure gauges, filter bags, pneumatic wheels and dome lid seals.

How to choose

Match the vacuum motor by diameter and stages, not by wattage alone. A 5.7 inch two-stage and a 6.6 inch two-stage are not interchangeable in the same housing, and wattage on its own tells you little about lift. Measure the motor you are replacing.

Fit a new gasket every time you fit a motor. A reused gasket is the most common reason a freshly replaced motor still will not pull lift. They cost a few dollars.

Pump problems are usually the unloader or the switch. Before condemning a pump, check the unloader valve and the pressure switch. Both are cheap, both fail more often than the pump, and both present as "no pressure".

Keep switchgear on the van. A rocker switch is a two-dollar part that ends a day's work. Hold a spare of each.
