What the parts list says
Named as item 8 in the Phoenix HydroXtractor service parts list, quantity 2. The same list also covers:

What the hitch pins do
Phoenix's 50 Hz Hydro-X Xtreme Xtractor owner's manual (machine part number 4030930) uses the hitch pins to secure the handle assembly: the square tube on the handle slides into the square receiver on the extraction assembly and is held with a hitch pin.
The manual also tells you to remove the middle hitch pin on the wheel/base assembly to steer the machine, and to refit it when you finish extracting and before moving or transporting the Hydro-X. That is the pin that goes missing on site.

Why a lost hitch pin stops the job
A hitch pin is a small part that holds an assembly together, and on a machine that is worked across wet floors it is the part most likely to walk off. Losing one on site normally means the machine cannot be used until it is replaced — and there is rarely a hardware shop open at the point you discover it.
That is the argument for carrying spares rather than ordering one when it fails. Order the pair, and a spare pair for the van.
Fitting advice
Check that the retaining clip or spring on the pin still snaps closed positively. A pin that no longer locks will fall out again, and the pin is cheaper than whatever it was retaining.
If you have lost a pin, look at why. A pin that vibrates out on a machine that has never lost one before usually means the bore has worn or something is loose upstream.

Phoenix's manual has you take the middle pin out to steer while extracting. Refit it before you move or transport the machine.
