Low tack is the point
This tape covers sensitive electronics and protects wall finishes while the coil is washed. It is low tack deliberately: standard packing tape or masking tape will lift paint, pull the printed legend off a control panel, or leave adhesive residue on a customer’s wall that you then have to clean off.
Do not substitute. The saving on a roll of ordinary tape disappears the first time you take paint off a wall above an air conditioner.
