Heat range matters
A spark plug’s heat range is matched to the engine. Fitting a hotter or colder plug because it physically threads in causes pre-ignition or fouling — neither of which announces itself immediately, and both of which do real damage on an engine that runs at sustained load the way a truckmount does.
Check and set the gap before fitting. Plugs are not always correctly gapped in the box.
Genuine parts on a truckmount engine
The engine on a truckmount is the machine. An hour of downtime is a job cancelled, and the part that stopped it is almost always a small one. Genuine and correctly specified parts are not a premium here — they are what stops a two-dollar component costing a day of work.
