Overview
Blower drive belt, 5VX510. Sapphire part number 37-107. Supplied as a Continental ContiTech HY-T Wedge Matchmaker cogged V-belt, section 5VX, 51 inch outside length, fibre-reinforced Wingprene rubber.
Reading the belt code
- 5V — narrow-wedge V-belt section
- X — cogged (notched), for smaller pulleys and better heat shedding
- 510 — 51.0 inch outside length
Sapphire list several belts in this family, including 5VX433 (37-070) and 5VX412 (37-066). Read the code off the belt you are replacing — the wrong length in the right section will go on and will not tension.
What "Matchmaker" means, and why it matters here
Matchmaker is Continental's matched-set system: belts are manufactured to a tolerance that lets any two of the same code be used together as a matched pair without individually measuring them.
That is directly relevant on a blower drive. Where a drive uses two or more belts, they must be replaced as a set. Fitting one new belt alongside an older one loads the new belt with most of the drive — it stretches early, and you end up doing the job twice. Matched belts share the load as designed.
The blower drive is the one to get right
A vacuum blower is an expensive component with tight internal clearances, and it does not tolerate being driven badly.
Over-tension puts side load into the blower bearings, and blower bearing failure is the sort of repair that takes a machine off the road. Under-tension lets the belt slip, which glazes it, polishes the pulley and generates heat exactly where you do not want it.
Set tension to specification with a gauge, not by thumb.
Fitting advice
Check pulley alignment while the belt is off. Uneven wear on the old belt, or black dust collecting on one side, means the pulleys are out of line and the new belt will follow.
Inspect the pulley grooves — a glazed or worn groove will not drive a new belt properly.
Re-check tension after the first few hours of running. Belts bed in and lose tension.
Judge a modern belt by how it sits in the groove rather than by looking for cracks. Riding low, or touching the bottom of the groove, means finished.
Frequently asked questions
What length is it?
51 inch outside length.
How many does my machine take?
That depends on the drive. If yours runs more than one, replace them all together as a matched set.
Which machines take it?
Sapphire list it in their parts schedule as a blower belt without naming a machine. Send us your model and serial number and we will check.
Can I mix a new belt with an existing one?
No. Replace multi-belt drives as a set.
Send us the code off your existing belt and your machine model and we will confirm the belt and how many you need.
