Fitment
Insulated pins read at the tip
These are insulated except at the tip, so the meter reports moisture at the depth the pin has reached rather than the wettest point along its length. That is what makes a hammer probe useful — driving to two depths gives you the gradient, which tells you whether timber is dry or only dry at the surface.
Do not substitute uninsulated pins. They fit and they change what the reading means.
