Getting a Clamped Joint Right
A clamp does the sealing work on a barbed joint, and most barb failures are clamp failures. Two things matter: the clamp must sit over the barb ribs rather than behind them, and it must be sized to the hose outside diameter rather than the barb size. A clamp that is too large will tighten fully and still not grip.
