Viton or Nitrile — Which One You Have

There are two versions of this O-ring and the difference is the compound, not the size. NA1417 is the premium Viton (FKM) part — this one. NA2314B is the standard nitrile (Buna-N) version, which CCW does not stock. If you are running solvents, the Viton one is the only correct answer.

Why Viton Matters Here

Viton (FKM) is the reason these sprayers tolerate solvent-bearing chemistry. Nitrile swells and softens in aromatic and chlorinated solvents; Viton does not.

One caution worth being straight about: a Viton seal does not make the whole machine solvent-proof. The limiting component is usually the tank and fittings, not the elastomer. Fitting a Viton O-ring to a sprayer whose manufacturer says "not recommended for solvents" does not change that advice.

Not Resolved

The new-generation seal kit NA2314 contains its own pump barrel O-ring, NA2314B. We have not been able to establish whether NA1417 is the older equivalent superseded by it, or simply the same O-ring sold on its own. Until we know, order by your sprayer generation and check with us if you are unsure.

Which Generation Is Your Sprayer?

The AS18, AS202 and AS204 changed generation, and the parts are not interchangeable. There is a look-and-see test that needs no serial number and no tools.

• Relief valve on the pump assembly — you have the old generation. It takes Pressure Relief Valve NA1610 (old style).
• Relief valve on the tank lid, lockable open or closed, usually alongside a moulded wand clip on the lid — you have the new generation. It takes Pressure Relief Valve NA2310 (new style).

These sprayers are built by Chapin and badged Hydro-Force, and the change tracks Chapin's move to its XP series. Chapin states the older valve is not compatible with XP sprayers, so this is the manufacturer's own position rather than our inference.

Is this the same as the O-ring in the NA2314 kit?

Unresolved. The two are described the same way and we have asked the supplier to confirm.

Does Viton mean I can spray solvents?

It means the seal will cope. Whether the machine will is a separate question — check the sprayer's own guidance.

What about the AS16?

The AS16 and AS14 use a different pump seal, O-Ring Pump Seal AS14 & AS16 (NA1413).

What We See in the Field

When an O-ring repeatedly swells, flattens or cracks, check the chemical compatibility and the condition of the sealing surface instead of fitting another seal and hoping. A light film of the correct compatible lubricant during assembly also prevents cutting the new O-ring.
