Universal Air Mover Clamp

Overview

Universal air mover clamp. Part number AC-01T-BNNN0101.

It uses an over-centre locking system: once engaged it will not let go until the technician removes it. It also has an adjustable soft rubber boot that grips carpet securely without risking damage to it.

What a carpet clamp is actually for

Floating a carpet — lifting it off the underlay and blowing air underneath — is one of the fastest ways to dry a water-damaged floor, because it exposes both faces of the carpet and the slab or subfloor at the same time.

The problem is holding the carpet up. Air pressure alone will lift it and then drop it, and a carpet that flaps for eight hours has been abraded for eight hours. A clamp holds the edge captive against the air mover so the float is stable for as long as the machine runs.

Why the over-centre lock matters

An over-centre mechanism goes past its point of maximum force and locks there, so it cannot release under vibration or load. That is exactly what you want on equipment left running unattended overnight.

The failure a spring clamp has, and this does not, is the slow release: it holds when you set it, and by morning the carpet is on the floor and the drying you paid for has not happened. Nobody is there to see it.

Protecting the carpet you are drying

The soft rubber boot is the part that matters for the customer. A metal clamp bearing directly on carpet for a day leaves marks in the pile and can distort the backing at the edge — on a wool or a patterned carpet that is a claim of its own.

Two things worth doing:

  • Set the boot to the carpet, not to the clamp. It is adjustable for a reason; a heavy commercial loop and a domestic cut pile want different settings.
  • Check the clamped edge when you move the machine. If the pile is crushing, ease the setting.

Frequently asked questions

Will it fit my air mover?

It is described as universal. Tell us which air movers you run and we will confirm before you order.

Will it mark the carpet?

The soft rubber boot is there to prevent that. Set it to the carpet and check the edge when you move the machine.

How many do I need?

One per float point. Most rooms need more than one machine and therefore more than one clamp.

Is the pad spindle included?

The spindle is available separately as a wear item in imperial and metric thread. Ask us if you are unsure which yours takes.
