How It Works

1. Swab the surface or water sample.
2. Insert the swab into the luminometer.
3. Run the test (≈10 seconds).
4. Get an RLU reading (contamination level).

Higher reading = higher contamination: clean again before sign-off.

In more detail, from Anaeron's YZ3500 user manual:

1. Turn the meter on. If it has come from a hot van or a cold site, let it sit for 10–20 minutes so it is close to room temperature.
2. Stand it on its rear support on a flat surface, or hold it with less than 45° of tilt. A built-in gyroscope warns you if it tilts too far during a test.
3. Swab a 10 × 10 cm area, horizontally and vertically, return the swab to its tube, break the valve, squeeze the bulb to release the liquid and shake.
4. Open the chamber cover, insert the swab vertically and close the cover. The test starts automatically.
5. Read the result, then remove the swab straight away. Re-testing an old swab gives unreliable readings.

Pass, Caution and Fail Thresholds

Each result is judged against a minimum and maximum RLU value you set. Below the minimum is a pass, between the two is caution, and above the maximum is a fail. Anaeron quotes a default threshold of 20–60 RLU for the meter. Anaeron's ATP surface swab instructions suggest different default limits (under 10 pass, 10–30 warning, over 30 fail), so decide your own limits and set them in the meter before you rely on the colour-coded result.

Thresholds can be saved per test location, so a kitchen bench and a subfloor can carry different limits.

Technical Specifications

Recording and Reporting

• Locations: name each test point and give it its own thresholds.
• Plans: group locations into a test plan with reminders, so every point on a job gets tested.
• Inspectors: log which technician ran each test, with optional passwords.
• History: filter results by pass, caution and fail, by inspector, location, plan and date, and view trends by day.
• Export: results export as a spreadsheet file over USB-C, or sync to Anaeron's PC analysis software (WiFi or USB) or its cloud platform.

Deleting records can be password-protected. The manual's initial management password is 123456, so set your own before the meter goes on a job.

Calibration

The meter has an automatic calibration function. Anaeron also provides a calibration check routine (internal LED, negative and positive tests) that needs its calibration quality control tube. That tube is not currently listed by CCW; contact us if your QA program requires documented calibration checks.

Care and Battery

• Keep the chamber cover closed when not testing, and keep the chamber out of strong light.
• Never let liquid into the chamber. If the meter gets wet, do not turn it on; remove the battery.
• Clean the case with a damp cloth or neutral detergent. Keep solvents, grease and corrosive products off the meter.
• Charge only with the supplied adapter and unplug when full. Charge at least monthly in storage, and run a full charge-discharge cycle every three months.
• Anaeron's manual says to remove the lithium battery when transporting the instrument.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which swabs does it read?

Anaeron lists CleanTrust ATP Surface Swabs and CleanTrust TOTAL ATP Water Swabs, and the manual says to use only matching swabs. Protein swabs are read by eye.

Does a low RLU mean the surface is free of mould or bacteria?

No. ATP measures organic residue from living and once-living material. It is a fast hygiene indicator, not a count or identification of mould or bacteria, and it does not replace laboratory sampling where a clearance specification calls for it.

How many tests will I get from a charge?

Anaeron's website and CCW quote about 3000; the user manual says 2500. Plan on the lower figure for a long day and charge overnight.

What RLU limit should I use?

There is no single restoration standard. The meter ships with Anaeron's default (20–60 RLU) and the swab instructions suggest tighter limits. Pick limits that suit your work, set them per location and apply them consistently.

How do I get results into my report?

Export from History to a spreadsheet file over USB-C, or sync to Anaeron's PC analysis software or cloud platform.

What is the warranty?
