Product Overview
The Actichem Responsibly Green Shower Cleaner is designed to be the most effective and versatile product of its kind. Its powerful cleaning action comes from naturally derived organic acids, which makes it a strong choice for sports change rooms and locker rooms in corporate buildings, while the fresh fragrance makes it an attractive option in household shower cleaning.
This 1 litre pack is the van-stock and single-site size, and pairs with the Actiflow dispensing system.
Benefits
- High performance — select organic acids boosted with dynamic emulsifiers make quick work of soap scum, limescale and body fats.
- Antimicrobial — naturally derived biocides tackle a wide variety of germs. See the note under Safety on how to read this claim.
- Odour control — Elimotech technology destroys malodour at a molecular level.
- Stay clean technology — anti-resoiling chemistry ensures future cleans get easier.
- Safe and easy — suitable on all washroom surfaces. Do not use on natural stone or acid-sensitive substrates.
- Eco-safe — formulated with environmentally friendly ingredients, part of Actichem’s Responsibly Green range.
Application Areas and Surface Suitability
Ideally suited to cleaning all shower surfaces, including tiles, glass, tapware and grout.
Do not use on natural stone or acid-sensitive substrates. At pH 2 to 3 this product will etch marble, limestone, travertine and polished stone. Shower recesses increasingly use stone and engineered stone — identify the surface before you spray, and pre-test in an inconspicuous location every time.
Directions for Use
- Read and understand the Safety Data Sheet before use.
- Pre-test sensitive substrates for chemical sensitivity.
Dilution
- Showers, toilets and basins — undiluted to 1:10
- Floors and walls — 1:10 (100 ml per litre)
Note that the showers, toilets and basins method puts the concentrate on the surface. That is the mode in which eye protection matters most — see Safety.
Cleaning
- Apply the solution directly to the area being cleaned.
- Spread and agitate with a cloth, non-scratch scourer pad or mop.
- Allow extra dwell time and agitation for stubborn build-ups.
- Rinse with clean water.
- Glass surfaces can be polished to a dry, streak-free finish using a microfibre cloth.
Actiflow dispenser
Use an Actiflow dispenser and applicator bottle for accurate, easy and safe dispensing. Given the H318 classification, a closed dispensing system is worth having — it removes the decanting step, which is where concentrate splashes.
Safety
Please read this section even if you have used this product before. Earlier versions of this page carried no hazard information at all.
Shower Cleaner is classified as a HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL under the WHS Regulations. It is not classified as dangerous goods and carries no poisons schedule.
- Signal word: DANGER
- H315 — causes skin irritation
- H318 — causes serious eye damage
- GHS: Skin Corrosion/Irritation Category 2; Serious Eye Damage Category 1
- pH as supplied: 2 to 3
- Actives: glycolic acid, citric acid, sodium lauryl ether sulphate and two proprietary surfactants — each below 5%
H318 is the statement that matters, and the geometry of the job makes it worse. This is a spray product applied overhead onto tiles and screens in an enclosed cubicle. Spray drift and rebound off a vertical surface go straight back towards the operator’s face. Wear eye protection. Most people do not, on this product, because it is sold as an everyday consumable and it smells pleasant.
Personal protective equipment
The SDS specifies chemical protective gloves in butyl, neoprene or Viton, safety glasses with side shields or chemical goggles, overalls, barrier cream and access to an eye wash unit. Ventilate the cubicle — a shower recess is a small, enclosed space and aerosol accumulates.
First aid
Eyes. Wash out immediately with fresh running water, holding the eyelids apart to ensure complete irrigation. Seek medical attention without delay — H318 means the damage can be permanent.
Skin. Remove contaminated clothing. Flush skin with running water and soap. Seek medical attention if irritation persists.
On the antimicrobial claim
The organic acid system has genuine antimicrobial properties and will reduce biological growth on a shower surface. It is not a listed disinfectant — no TGA (ARTG) or APVMA number is published for this product. If your scope, contract or audit requires a listed disinfectant, use Actichem Percide (AUST L 332284) or Biosan II (AUST L 332364) and keep the listing number on file.
Never Mix With Bleach
This is an acid at pH 2 to 3, and a shower recess is where acid and bleach most often meet. Mixing an acid with sodium hypochlorite liberates chlorine gas, and a shower cubicle is about the worst confined space in which to do it.
The SDS names strong bases as the incompatibility. The chlorine reaction is a property of acidity itself. Never use this product in the same recess, at the same time, or with the same cloth as:
- Actichem Chlorosan
- Actichem Mould Exterminator or Hypo Enforcer working solutions
- Any hypochlorite bleach, pool chlorine or chlorine-based sanitiser
- Any ammoniated cleaner — ammonia and hypochlorite form chloramine gas
Also avoid mixing with strong alkaline cleaners such as Tile & Grout Power or DualSan Foam. Rinse thoroughly between products, and do not carry an open bottle of this alongside an open bottle of bleach on the same trolley.
