Important — standard duty or heavy duty?
Protimeter makes two hammer electrodes and they take different needles.
- BLD5000 standard duty — takes these BLD0529 needles.
- BLD5055 heavy duty — takes BLD5296 needles instead.
Check the model number on your electrode before ordering. The needles are not interchangeable and the part numbers are close enough to be misread.
Why insulated needles
An uninsulated pin reads the wettest point along its whole length. Insulated needles contact the timber only at the tip, so driving to two depths shows you the moisture gradient — which is what tells you whether a floor is dry or only dry at the surface.
