Overview
Solution pressure gauge, 0–1000 psi. HydraMaster part number 000-074-003, listed as Gauge, High PSI (0-1000).
This is the gauge that tells you what the machine is actually doing at the pump, as distinct from what you assume it is doing. On a truckmount it is a diagnostic instrument first and a display second.
What it fits
Named in the parts lists of:
- HydraMaster CDS 4.2 / 4.7
- HydraMaster CDS 4.8
- HydraMaster SpitFire 4.0
- HydraMaster Crossfire 4.2
HydraMaster's suggested spares schedule also lists a 0–1500 psi gauge (074-007) for the Boxxer 421, Boxxer 427, CDS 4.6/4.8, MAXX and SpitFire 3.2, and a 0–3000 psi gauge (074-167) for the Boxxer 318HP and 323HP.
Important — match the range to the machine
Three pressure gauges appear across the HydraMaster range and they are not interchangeable:
- 074-003 — 0–1000 psi (this gauge)
- 074-007 — 0–1500 psi (not currently a stocked CCW line)
- 074-167 — 0–3000 psi, 2.5 inch dial
Fitting a 0–1000 psi gauge to a machine that runs beyond 1000 psi will destroy the gauge and leave you with no reading at all. Fitting an over-range gauge to a low-pressure machine gives you a needle that barely moves and a reading you cannot use to diagnose anything. Check the pressure your machine actually runs at before you order.
Reading it properly
A gauge is most useful when you know what normal looks like on your machine. Note the reading at rest, at trigger, and with the by-pass open, when the machine is known good — that gives you a baseline to compare against later.
Pressure that reads correctly at rest and falls away under trigger points at the pump, the by-pass valve seals or a restriction, not at the gauge. Pressure that will not hold at a set point usually means worn by-pass seals.
A gauge whose needle never returns to zero, or that sits visibly off zero at rest, is telling you it has been over-pressured or shocked. Replace it — a gauge you do not trust is worse than no gauge, because it will send you looking in the wrong place.
Frequently asked questions
What thread does it have?
HydraMaster does not state the connection size in the parts lists we hold. Check what is fitted to your machine, or send us a photo and we will confirm before you order.
Is it glycerine filled?
Not stated in the documentation we hold. Ask us if damping matters for your installation — a pulsing needle on a plunger-pump machine is common and a filled gauge is the usual answer.
My gauge reads high but the machine cleans poorly. What now?
High pressure with poor flow usually means a restriction downstream — the ¼ inch Y strainer screen, the orifice, or the jets. Start with the strainer.
Can I fit a 0–1500 psi gauge instead?
Only if your machine is specified for one. Over-range gauges cost you diagnostic resolution across the range you actually use.
Not sure which gauge your machine takes? Send us the model and serial number and we will check the parts list before you order.
