Product Overview

Windowgleam is a spray-on, wipe-off hard surface cleaner engineered for windows, mirrors and other smooth surfaces. It emulsifies oil residues, soil deposits and organic staining quickly and dries to a clean, non-streak finish.

It is built on polymeric detergents, which is what delivers the non-smear result — the usual cause of streaking is detergent residue drying on the glass, and this formulation is designed not to leave it.

Which pack size do you need?

This is the 5 litre pack. Remember the 1:50 squeegee dilution below — 5 litres of concentrate makes 250 litres of working solution, which is a great deal of glass. If you are running commercial facade work the 15 litre is the better buy.

Where to use it

Windows, glass facades, mirrors, marble and granite, on both domestic and commercial buildings. Also suited to melamine, decorative stone and stainless steel bench tops and equipment in kitchens, restaurants and hotels.

Important — Windowgleam is alkaline

Windowgleam is pH 10.3. That is more alkaline than most people expect from a glass cleaner, and it is the single most useful thing on this page.

Glass does not care. Some of the things around glass do:

• Anodised aluminium window frames — alkaline cleaners can etch or bloom the anodised finish. Keep the product off the frames, and wipe up any overspray promptly rather than letting it dry there.
• Window films and tints — check the film manufacturer’s guidance. Many tint warranties specify neutral cleaners only.
• Mirror backing — the silvering on the reverse of a mirror is vulnerable to alkaline attack. Spray the cloth, not the mirror, and never let product run down to the bottom edge where it can wick behind the backing. This is what causes the black creeping edge on older bathroom mirrors.
• Polished marble — while the product is listed as suitable for marble and granite, treat highly polished marble with the usual care and pre-test.

None of this makes Windowgleam a difficult product. It makes it a product worth pre-testing on the first job at a new site.

Directions for Use

Read the safety data sheet before use.

• Trigger spray, undiluted — spray a fine mist onto the surface and dry to a gloss finish with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth or paper towel.
• Professional squeegee work — dilute 20 ml per litre of water (1:50). Apply with a window washer and squeegee off.

The 1:50 dilution for squeegee work is a large difference in cost per window. If you are doing commercial glass at volume, running it neat from a trigger bottle is fifty times the chemical cost for no additional result.

Safety

This listing previously recorded “Safety profile: Non-hazardous”. That was wrong and has been corrected.

Actichem’s safety data sheet for AP555, version 2.4 issued 3 October 2025, classifies Windowgleam as a hazardous chemical with the signal word WARNING.

In fairness to the product, this is a mild classification and we want to be proportionate about it. Windowgleam carries one hazard statement, no poisons schedule, and is not a dangerous good. It is a long way from the solvent spotters. But “mild” is not the same as “non-hazardous”, and the sheet says hazardous, so the page says hazardous.

What that means in practice

Windowgleam is applied as a fine mist, usually at or above head height, often while you are looking up at the glass. That is the geometry most likely to put product in an eye. Safety glasses are worth wearing on a long window run, and are worth insisting on for anyone working from a ladder, where an eye full of cleaner is a fall risk as much as an eye injury.

Avoid contact with oxidising agents. Do not mix it with anything else.

First aid

Eyes. Wash out immediately with fresh running water. Ensure complete irrigation by keeping the eyelids apart and moving them, occasionally lifting the upper and lower lids. Seek medical attention if irritation persists.
