Actichem Performance Gold 5 ltr

Product Overview

Performance Gold is a high-performance carpet cleaning prespray.

It is a unique blend of high-performance surfactant chemistry, soil release agents and solvents which combine to provide grease-cutting power normally only associated with high pH, heavy-duty degreasers. Whilst Performance Gold rips through the toughest of grime, it cares for the carpet fibre at the same time and rinses freely to leave the carpet chemical-free.

This product is a great replacement for PowerClean PowerClenz Ultra.

Benefits

  • Soil suspension — a “no cost spared” selection of grease-cutting agents breaks through resistant soiling, with specialty polymer technology to suspend the soils for effective rinsing.
  • Tracked-in soils — smart chemistry breaks down and suspends fine clays and atmospheric soiling. Of particular benefit in areas where red soils are present.
  • Fibre safe — ideal for use on virtually all carpet fibres when used as specified. Meets the specifications for use on 5th-generation stain-resistant carpet.
  • Ultra concentrate — super concentrate formula allowing economical dilution ratios while still providing high performance cleaning.
  • Phosphate free — does not contribute to the eutrophication of our waterways.
  • Low VOC profile — no unwanted, unpleasant vapours, and designed for easy use through pump-up or hydroforce sprayers with a fresh, clean scent.

⚠ A Correction to This Page

Earlier versions of this listing described Performance Gold as having “outstanding low toxicity and OH&S ratings” and recorded its safety profile as “Non-hazardous”.

Both statements were wrong, and we have removed them. Actichem classify this product as a hazardous chemical carrying a DANGER signal word, with Poisons Schedules 5 and 6 — the only product in our Actichem prespray range with a dual schedule. The full classification is set out below.

The low VOC and phosphate-free claims are accurate and we have kept them. Low VOC describes what evaporates, not what the product does to skin or eyes.

Application Areas and Surface Suitability

Carpet cleaning prespray.

How to Use

Always pre-test in an inconspicuous location for substrate sensitivity to chemicals. Observe all safety directions and read the safety data sheet before use.

Dilutions

Pump-up sprayer — add 15–30 ml per litre of water (1:64 – 1:32) depending on soil conditions.

Hydroforce high-pressure model

  • 1:9 tip (yellow) — add 700 ml to 1.2 L into a 5 L Hydroforce container and fill with water.
  • 1:32 tip (brown) — dilute 1:1 with water, or add directly into a 5 L Hydroforce container.

Application

  1. Always prepare the carpet to be cleaned with thorough vacuuming.
  2. Pre-spray the Performance Gold solution onto the carpet. Do not allow to dry.
  3. Agitate and allow 5–10 minutes dwell time.
  4. Extract rinse using Emulsifier Plus or Extracta Pro. For wool carpets, extract rinse using Rinse Pro.
  5. Assist drying with air movers or similar if atmospheric conditions are humid.

Safety

Actichem’s safety data sheet for AP454, version 2.4 issued 13 August 2025, classifies Performance Gold as a HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL under the Model WHS Regulations. It is not classified as dangerous goods for transport.

  • Signal word: DANGER
  • H315 — causes skin irritation
  • H318 — causes serious eye damage
  • pH as supplied: 9.6
  • Poisons Schedule: 5 and 6

⚠ Poisons Schedules 5 and 6

This is the only product in our Actichem prespray range carrying a dual poisons schedule. It is driven by ethylene glycol monobutyl ether at 10–30% together with monoethanolamine. Store and handle it accordingly, and check it against your own dangerous-substances register if you keep one.

⚠ H318 — this is the one that matters day to day

H318 means causes serious eye damage — irreversible, not irritation.

Eye protection when decanting, mixing and spraying. The spraying part is the one people skip: a pump-up sprayer or hydroforce worked at floor level throws mist upward, towards your face, and prespray is used that way on essentially every job. Safety glasses with open sides are not adequate for a product classified H318 — use chemical goggles.

Concentrate versus working solution

Performance Gold is a super concentrate, and the classification above describes the product in the container — not the tank mix at 1:32 to 1:75.

The diluted working solution is considerably milder. But the concentrate is what you decant, and decanting is when people are hurt. The hydroforce method in particular involves pouring up to 1.2 litres of neat product into a container — that is the moment to have goggles on.

Do not mix

Actichem’s safety data sheet for this product lists incompatible materials as “none known”. We do not think that is right for an alkaline product of this strength, and we have raised it with them.

Keep it away from the acid range — Brownaway, Rust Remover, Crete Clean and the tile and grout restorers — and from the oxidisers, including Stain Fix and the chlorine range. Rinse equipment thoroughly between an alkaline step and an acid step.

Personal protective equipment

Chemical goggles, and overalls where the product is sprayed for extended periods. An eyewash unit should be available wherever this product is decanted.

First aid

Eyes. Wash out immediately with fresh running water for at least 15 minutes, holding the eyelids open to ensure complete irrigation. Immediately call a Poisons Information Centre or doctor — H318 damage is not something to assess yourself.

Skin. Remove contaminated clothing and wash the area with soap and water. Seek medical advice if irritation persists.

Swallowed. Rinse the mouth with water. Do not induce vomiting. Call a Poisons Information Centre or doctor.
