Product Overview
Actichem Emulsifier Plus is a premium-quality extraction detergent liquid. This innovative emulsifier formulation has a well-buffered pH and a unique combination of solvents, detergents and water softeners for cutting through the toughest soils, taking the “sweat” out of carpet cleaning. It is suited to the hottest truck-mount cleaning systems and withstands ultra-high heat, minimising residual deposits and clogged spray jets.
This listing is the bulk pack, for high-volume truckmount and multi-vehicle operations.
This product is an excellent replacement for PowerClean Xtract.
Benefits
- Premium cleaning action — cuts through stubborn oily soils and emulsifies tracked-in particulate soiling, releasing it for efficient extraction.
- High heat stable — stays in solution even at the hottest truckmount temperatures, helping eliminate residual deposits and clogged spray jets.
- Fibre safe — safe for use on stain-resistant fibres. Ideal for use on all synthetic carpeting.
- Equipment safe — specialty corrosion inhibitors protect your equipment components. Worth noting if you are comparing it with the powder rinses — Extracta Pro is incompatible with copper and aluminium, and this one is not.
- The product of choice — ultra-concentrated liquid formulation provides smarter cleaning at a lower cost. Suitable for truckmount use, and the ideal choice for portable users.
- Mixes easily — with hot or warm water, and has a fresh fragrance.
- Versatile — ideal as a one-step emulsifying extraction cleaner, or as an extraction detergent following a prespray treatment for heavily soiled carpets.
Application Areas and Surface Suitability
Emulsifier Plus is a carpet cleaning extraction detergent.
How to Use
Always pre-test in an inconspicuous location for substrate sensitivity to chemicals. Observe all safety directions and read the safety data sheet before use.
Dilutions
Portable extractors
- 12 ml per 10 L (1:800) when cleaning wool and stain-resistant carpets, or when using the two-step process.
- 25 ml per 10 L (1:400) for heavy soil conditions using the single-step process.
Truck-mounted extractors
- Mix 250 ml with 10 L of water to make the truckmount concentrate.
- Set the flow meter to 2 – 4 gallons per hour for wool and stain-resistant carpets, or when using the two-step process.
- Set the flow meter to 4 – 8 gallons per hour for heavy soil conditions using the single-step process.
Single-step cleaning method — light to medium soiling
- Prepare the carpet by thoroughly vacuuming the area to be cleaned.
- Using the dilution rates above, clean and extract the carpet or upholstery fabric using slightly overlapping strokes.
- Apply carpet protector if required.
- Realign the fibres and assist the drying process.
Two-step cleaning method — medium to heavy soiling
- Vacuum thoroughly, then apply the relevant prespray treatment, following the suggested dwell time and agitation.
- Using the dilution rates above, rinse the carpet or upholstery fabric using slightly overlapping strokes.
- Apply carpet protector if required.
- Realign the fibres and assist the drying process.
Notes: move the wand more slowly over areas that are more heavily soiled, and use a dry stroke to speed up drying.
Decant into a labelled container for site use. An unlabelled bottle in a work vehicle is a WHS problem regardless of what is in it.
Safety
Please read this section. This listing previously described Emulsifier Plus as “Non-hazardous”. That was wrong. It has been corrected.
Actichem’s safety data sheet for AP455, version 2.3 issued 13 August 2025, classifies it as a HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL under the Model WHS Regulations. It is not classified as dangerous goods for transport.
- Signal word: DANGER
- H315 — causes skin irritation
- H318 — causes serious eye damage
- pH as supplied: 9.6 per the current SDS (our earlier records stated 9.5 – 9.8)
- Poisons Schedule: not applicable
⚠ H318 — this is the one that matters
H318 means causes serious eye damage — irreversible, not irritation. It is the classification driving the DANGER signal word on this product, and on every other prespray and extraction product in our Actichem range.
Eye protection when decanting and mixing. Safety glasses with open sides are not adequate for a product classified H318 — use chemical goggles. Decanting is the main exposure with a drum this size, so do it over a surface you can rinse.
Concentrate versus working solution
Emulsifier Plus is an ultra concentrate, and the classification above describes the product in the container — not the tank mix at 1:400 to 1:800.
At those dilutions the working solution is very much milder. But the concentrate is what you decant, and decanting is when people are hurt.
We are spelling this out because it is almost certainly how the original “non-hazardous” description came about — someone described the working solution and it was recorded as though it described the drum.
Do not mix
Actichem’s safety data sheet for this product lists incompatible materials as “none known”. We do not think that is right for an alkaline product of this strength, and we have raised it with them.
Keep it away from the acid range — Brownaway, Rust Remover, Crete Clean and the tile and grout restorers — and from the oxidisers, including Stain Fix and the chlorine range.
Personal protective equipment
Chemical goggles, and overalls where the product is handled in quantity. An eyewash unit should be available wherever this product is decanted.
First aid
Eyes. Wash out immediately with fresh running water for at least 15 minutes, holding the eyelids open to ensure complete irrigation. Immediately call a Poisons Information Centre or doctor — H318 damage is not something to assess yourself.
Skin. Remove contaminated clothing and wash the area with soap and water. Seek medical advice if irritation persists.
Swallowed. Rinse the mouth with water. Do not induce vomiting. Call a Poisons Information Centre or doctor.
