Velvet carding brush

Over 2,000 strands of cadmium-plated steel wire will groom and set the nap of fine velvets with no worry of texture damage. A must for the professional.

What carding actually does

Velvet and other dense cut piles hold a direction. Cleaning disturbs it, and a velvet that has been cleaned and not reset looks patchy and shaded even though it is perfectly clean — the customer sees marks and blames the work.

Carding lays the nap back into one direction while the pile is still damp. Cadmium-plated steel wire is fine enough to pass between the yarns and set them without cutting or pulling, which is what a stiff nylon groomer will do on a fine velvet.

Do it while it is damp

Once a velvet dries in the wrong direction, resetting it means re-wetting it. Card as the last step before you leave, working consistently in one direction, and finish with the light so the customer sees the pile the way it is meant to sit.
