External jets on an upholstery tool
External jets spray in front of the head, so you can see the pattern and clear a blocked jet without dismantling anything. They are also easier to change when they wear.
The trade-off is that solution is applied ahead of the vacuum slot rather than within the head. On heavy soiling many operators prefer that; on delicate face fabrics an internal-jet tool such as the PMF AW50A contains the spray better.
Jets are consumables
Replace brass jets every six months and stainless annually on a tool in regular use. A worn jet sprays wide and soft, which puts more water into a fabric that can least afford it.
