Overview
Exhaust manifold gasket for the Briggs & Stratton P-220 engine. HydraMaster part number 000-057-016, listed as Gasket, P-220 Exhaust Manifold.
Two are required per engine. HydraMaster's own parts lists show them fitted in pairs.
What it fits
- HydraMaster SpitFire 4.0 — engine assembly items 33 and 38, 2 fitted; also item 67 in the machine assembly
- HydraMaster SpitFire 3.2 — item 18, 2 fitted
Do not confuse it with 057-010, Gasket, Exhaust Manifold — Vanguard, which is listed as item 13 in the same SpitFire 3.2 assembly. The two gaskets sit in the same exhaust system and are not the same part.
Why exhaust gaskets are worth doing properly
An exhaust leak on a truckmount engine is not just a noise problem. On a machine that heats solution from exhaust or engine heat, a leaking manifold joint changes the heat available and shows up as inconsistent solution temperature. In a van, an exhaust leak is a safety matter before it is a performance one.
Manifold gaskets fail from heat cycling rather than hours, so a machine that is started and stopped many times a day will go through them faster than the hour meter suggests.
Fitting advice
Replace both gaskets together, and replace them whenever the manifold comes off — a used exhaust gasket has already taken its set and will not seal the same joint twice.
Clean both faces properly and check the manifold face for distortion before you reassemble. A warped flange will leak through a new gasket, and you will be doing the job again.
Torque the fasteners evenly and in sequence. Exhaust fasteners work loose with heat cycling — check them again after the first few hours of running.
Frequently asked questions
How many do I need?
Two per engine.
Is this the Vanguard gasket?
No. The Vanguard exhaust manifold gasket is 057-010, a different part.
Can I re-use the old one if it looks intact?
No. It has already conformed to the old joint under heat and pressure.
What material is it?
HydraMaster does not state the gasket material in the parts lists we hold, so we are not going to guess. Ask us if the specification matters for your application.
Doing an exhaust job? Tell us the machine and we will check the parts list for the fasteners, donut gasket and diverter flange gasket you may also need.
