Replacement integral contact pin and retainer for current-generation Delmhorst meters
A non-insulated steel pin mounted in its retainer, giving 5/16 inch (7.9 mm) penetration. These are the pins that sit on top of the meter itself, not on a separate electrode.
Fitment
- Delmhorst BDX-20 and BDX-30
- Delmhorst JX-20 and JX-30
- Delmhorst PX-20 and PX-30
- Current Navigator series meters with integral pins
- Optional on the 2-E electrode and the 4-E electrode
Important — this is the pin that lets the cap close
Delmhorst specifies the 2498/A-100 for these meters so the pin cover fits correctly. The older 2497/A-100 pin, supplied on earlier BD-series meters, will read accurately if fitted, but the pin cover will not close over it. The BDX-20 and BDX-30 owner’s manual states this directly. If you have a BDX, JX or PX meter, order this part rather than the 2497.
Specifications
| Part number | 2498/A-100 |
|---|---|
| Pin type | Non-insulated steel, supplied in retainer |
| Penetration | 5/16 inch (7.9 mm) |
| Materials | Wood, concrete and gypsum. Delmhorst rates the pin for wood up to 2 inches thick, plaster and drywall; our earlier listing quoted 1 1/2 inches for wood, concrete and gypsum. Both figures are guidance — penetration is fixed at 5/16 inch. |

When to replace
Pins blunt and corrode with use, and a blunt pin gives a poor contact and an optimistic reading. Change them as soon as the tips no longer bite cleanly, and keep the retainers hand tight — Delmhorst specifically warns against over-tightening.
Frequently asked questions
Will the older 2497 pins work in my BDX?
Electrically, yes. Both are non-insulated steel pins with 5/16 inch penetration. The pin cover will not fit over them, which is why Delmhorst specifies the 2498 for these meters.
Do these fit the 2-E electrode?
They can be used on the 2-E and 4-E, but the standard pin for those electrodes is the 2497/A-100.
How deep do they read?
Penetration is 5/16 inch (7.9 mm), which suits wood up to about 2 inches thick, plaster and drywall. For deeper readings you need an external electrode such as the 26-ES hammer electrode.
Can I sharpen a blunt pin instead of replacing it?
You can dress a tip, but the pin is a consumable and grinding changes the exposed geometry. For the cost of a pin it is not worth risking the reading.
