Product Overview

Actichem Extracta Pro is a powdered carpet extraction detergent. This innovative emulsifier formulation features a well-buffered pH. It uses a unique combination of solvents, detergents and water softeners to cut through the toughest soils, removing the “sweat” from carpet cleaning. It is suited to the hottest truck-mount cleaning systems and withstands ultra-high heat, minimising residual deposits and clogged spray jets.

An excellent replacement for PowerClean Xtract Ultra.

Benefits

  • Premium cleaning action — cuts through stubborn oily soils and emulsifies tracked-in particulate soiling, releasing it for efficient extraction.
  • High heat stable — stays in solution even at the hottest truckmount temperatures, helping eliminate residual deposits and clogged spray jets.
  • Ideal for portable users — a concentrated powder means less weight and volume to carry.
  • Easy to use — mixes easily with hot or warm water and has a fresh citrus fragrance.
  • Versatile — use as a one-step emulsifying extraction cleaner, or as an extraction detergent following a prespray treatment for heavily soiled carpets.

Application Areas and Surface Suitability

Extracta Pro is a carpet extraction detergent powder.

How to Use

Always pre-test in an inconspicuous location for substrate sensitivity to chemicals. Observe all safety directions and read the safety data sheet before use — see the Safety section below, which has been corrected.

Dilutions

Portable extractors

  • 8 – 10 grams per 10 L when cleaning wool and stain-resistant carpets, or where the two-step process is used.
  • 10 – 15 grams per 10 L for heavy soil conditions using the single-step process.

Truck-mounted extractors

  • Mix 300 grams with 10 L of water to make the truck-mount concentrate.
  • Set the flow meter to 2 – 4 gallons per hour for cleaning wool and stain-resistant carpets, or when using the two-step process.
  • Set the flow meter at 2 gallons per hour for stain-resistant carpets.

Single-step cleaning method — light to medium soiling

  1. Prepare the carpet by thoroughly vacuuming the area to be cleaned.
  2. Using the dilution rates above, clean and extract the carpet or upholstery fabric using slightly overlapping strokes.
  3. Apply carpet protector if required.
  4. Realign the fibres and assist the drying process.

Two-step cleaning method — medium to heavy soiling

  1. Vacuum thoroughly, then apply the relevant prespray treatment, following the suggested dwell time and agitation.
  2. Using the dilution rates above, rinse the carpet or upholstery fabric using slightly overlapping strokes.
  3. Apply carpet protector if required.
  4. Realign the fibres and assist the drying process.

Notes: move the wand more slowly over areas that are more heavily soiled, and use a dry stroke to speed up drying.

Always add the powder to water, never water to powder, and mix at low height to limit dust. See the Safety section before opening the pail.

Safety

Please read this section before your next job. This listing previously described Extracta Pro as “Non-hazardous”. That was seriously wrong — this is one of the most hazardous products we sell. It has been corrected.

The page also already carried a dangerous goods shipping notice while describing the product as non-hazardous. The shipping notice was the accurate one.

Actichem’s safety data sheet for AP457, version 2.3 issued 25 August 2025, classifies Extracta Pro as a HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL and as DANGEROUS GOODS under the Model WHS Regulations and the ADG Code.

  • Signal word: DANGER
  • H314 — causes severe skin burns and eye damage
  • H335 — may cause respiratory irritation
  • AUH066 — repeated exposure may cause skin dryness and cracking
  • HAZCHEM code: 2X for transport (2R for firefighting)
  • Poisons Schedule: 5
  • pH of a 1% solution: 11.5 – 12.5

H314 is corrosive, not irritant. This product burns skin and causes irreversible eye damage. The classification describes the powder in the pail, which is what you handle when decanting and mixing. Actichem measure pH at a 1% solution and record 11.5 – 12.5; at the in-use dilution of 1:400 – 1:800 the working solution is much weaker, around pH 9.5 – 9.8. Both figures are correct at their own concentration.

⚠ Dust is the hazard people miss

Actichem instruct: “do not breathe dust or spray” and “use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area”. Their sheet documents potential lung damage from inhalation and recommends a dust respirator for spills.

Extracta Pro is a free-flowing powder, which means it raises dust readily — more so than a damp powder such as Clean Force. Tipping from a 10 kg pail into a mixing bucket aerosolises it, and H335 means what you breathe irritates your airways.

  • Wear a P2 dust respirator when decanting or mixing, not just gloves and goggles. This is the one product class in our chemical range where a respirator is the primary control rather than a precaution.
  • Tip slowly and low into the bucket. Do not drop powder from height.
  • Add powder to water, not water to powder.
  • Mix outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. A closed plant room or the back of a van is the wrong place.
  • For a spill, wear a dust respirator, sweep up without raising dust, and do not use compressed air.

⚠ It will corrode your equipment

Actichem list copper, aluminium and their alloys as incompatible with Extracta Pro. Alkaline solutions attack these metals.

That is an equipment warning as much as a safety one, and it matters more here than on most products because this one goes through your machine. Check before you mix in or run this through:

  • Aluminium mixing buckets, jugs and measuring vessels
  • Aluminium or brass fittings, quick-connects and wand components
  • Copper lines and brass pump internals on older machines and portables

Use plastic or stainless steel for mixing and storage. If you are unsure what your machine’s wet path is made of, ask us before running this through it.

Dangerous goods — freight

Extracta Pro is classified dangerous goods, HAZCHEM 2X for transport. Actichem’s sheet states no pack-size exemption, unlike several of their liquid products which are exempt at 5 litres or less. If you are consigning this rather than carrying it yourself, tell your freight provider it is regulated. A DG shipping surcharge applies.

Do not mix

Beyond copper and aluminium, Actichem list strong acids, acid chlorides, acid anhydrides and chloroformates, and oxidising agents including nitrates, oxidising acids, chlorine bleach and pool chlorine.

In our range that means keeping it away from Brownaway and the acid restorers, and from Chlorosan and the chlorine products.

Personal protective equipment

Actichem specify elbow length nitrile chemical protective gloves — note this differs from the neoprene and butyl specified across our liquid prespray range. Add chemical goggles, a P2 dust respirator for decanting and mixing, overalls and a chemical-resistant apron. An eyewash unit and safety shower should be available.

First aid

Eyes. Wash out immediately with fresh running water for at least 15 minutes, holding the eyelids open. Call a Poisons Information Centre or doctor immediately. H314 eye damage is irreversible and time matters.

Skin. Remove contaminated clothing immediately and wash with plenty of water. Seek medical attention — alkaline burns can progress after contact ends and may look mild at first.

Inhalation. Move to fresh air. Seek medical attention if coughing or breathing difficulty persists.

Swallowed. Rinse the mouth with water. Do not induce vomiting — a corrosive burns on the way back up. Give water to drink and call a Poisons Information Centre or doctor immediately.
