Actichem Deostor Extreme 5 Ltr

Deostor Extreme is Actichem's heavy-artillery odour control concentrate, for the jobs where a normal deodoriser has already failed. It is built for persistent, obnoxious odours - tobacco, curry, cadaverine - and it is highly concentrated. This listing is the 5 litre drum.

It is never used on its own. Actichem specify it as a booster that is always blended into another odour control product or a wash-down detergent. Used neat or over-applied it causes problems rather than solving them.

Product description

Deostor Extreme employs a high concentration of the most powerful of Elimotech chemistry for rapid neutralisation of the toughest of obnoxious odours. Elimotech reacts and neutralises mal-odours at a micro-molecular level, enabling quick and permanent elimination of trapped, embedded and air-borne odours.

Even a thorough disinfection and wash down of an area will not remove all odour molecules. Micro mal-odour particles exist in the air, trapped in fabrics, carpets and porous materials. In addition to a cleaning routine, you need an Odour Control Strategy.

When you actually need Extreme

Reach for it when the odour source is one of the genuinely stubborn ones and a standard Deostor has not held:

• Heavy tobacco contamination
• Cooking odours, particularly curry and other spice oils that have soaked into linings
• Cadaverine and decomposition odours

For ordinary fire and smoke work, Deostor Fire is the right product. For decaying organic matter and waste, use Deostor Organic. Extreme is what you add to those when they are not enough on their own.

Application

Always used as an additive. Mix it into a ready-to-use Deostor or wash-down solution - never apply it neat.

• 10-30 ml per litre of ready-to-use Deostor solution.
• 15-40 ml per litre for initial knock-down applications.
• 10-30 ml per litre of ready-to-use restoration wash-down solution.
• Laundering: 5-10 ml per kg of washing.
• Severe fire odour: 50 ml Deostor Fire plus 10 ml Deostor Extreme per litre of water.
• Physically remove decaying organic matter or charred items first - no additive out-runs a source left in place.
• The solution must actually reach the offending source. Airless paint sprayers suit larger areas.
• Where organic contaminants are present, co-treat with a biocide and/or an enzyme-bacteria blend.
• Pre-test in an inconspicuous location for substrate sensitivity before treating the whole area.

Do not over-apply. Actichem warn against it explicitly. More is not better with this product.

Actichem list Deostor Extreme as compatible with Deostor Fire, Deostor Organic, Fire Fix, Fire Restore and Biosan II. Do not add it to oxidising or chlorine solutions without consulting an Actichem technician.

Safety - please read before you order

We have corrected this page. It previously described this product as non-hazardous. That was wrong, and we would rather say so than quietly change it. Actichem's current safety data sheet classifies it as set out below.

Flash point above 23 °C. HAZCHEM 3Y. The concentrate contains ethanol and isopropanol, which is why it is a flammable liquid - store it away from heat and ignition sources and keep the container closed.

A note on transport. Actichem state the product is not regulated for transport of dangerous goods in pack sizes of 5 litres or less. That exemption is about how it may be shipped. It does not mean the product is non-hazardous, and it does not change how you should store or handle it on site.

Important. This product carries hazard statement H350 - may cause cancer, and H317 for skin sensitisation. Treat it accordingly: gloves and eye protection, adequate ventilation, no skin contact, and keep it off anyone not trained to use it. Read the safety data sheet in full and make sure it reaches whoever is actually handling the product, not just whoever ordered it.

Deostor or Odourtak?

They do different jobs and most fire and odour work uses both. Deostor is a concentrate you dilute into your wash-down or knock-down solution - it treats the surfaces and the wash water during remediation. Odourtak is ready to use and is fogged into the space afterwards, to reach the air and the cavities the smoke got into. Actichem's own Deostor instructions finish with fogging the area once the restoration is complete.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Deostor Extreme on its own?

No. Actichem specify it as an additive, always blended into another odour control product or a wash-down detergent. It is a booster, not a stand-alone treatment.

How much do I add?

10-30 ml per litre of ready-to-use solution for general work, up to 40 ml per litre for initial knock-down. For severe fire odour the published blend is 50 ml Deostor Fire plus 10 ml Deostor Extreme per litre of water.

What if I use more?

Don't. Actichem warn specifically that over-application causes problems. If the odour is not shifting, the usual reason is that the source is still in place, not that the dose is too low.

Is it hazardous?

Yes. It is a Category 3 flammable liquid, a skin sensitiser, an eye irritant, and it carries hazard statement H350 - may cause cancer. Signal word is DANGER. Read the safety data sheet above and make sure whoever handles it has seen it. It is not regulated for dangerous goods transport in packs of 5 litres or less, but that is a shipping exemption and nothing more.

Can I mix it with bleach or an oxidiser?

Not without asking Actichem first. They call this out explicitly for chlorine and oxidising solutions.
