Product Overview

Thymox is a highly versatile hospital grade disinfectant designed to excel in disaster restoration, healthcare, residential, commercial and industrial environments. Its formulation simplifies the cleaning process by providing four capabilities in a single step: cleaning, sanitising, disinfecting and deodorising.

It stands out particularly for its safe-in-use profile, which enables disinfection and decontamination around sensitive and health-compromised people. Thymox also meets eco-label requirements, and that combination has made it a popular choice in animal health and biosecurity.

This 20 litre drum is the production pack for contractors running the product daily, and for refilling trigger bottles and fogger tanks on site.

TGA listed — AUST L 400439. Actichem list Thymox as hospital grade, which is the classification above Commercial Disinfectant Grade. If a scope of works, contract or infection-control policy specifies hospital grade, this is the product in our range to use.

🔴 Contact Times — the step that actually disinfects

A listed disinfectant only delivers its claim if the surface stays visibly wet for the full contact time. Spray-and-wipe in one motion is a clean, not a disinfection. These are Actichem’s published times:

Norovirus is the one to plan around. It is a non-enveloped virus, which makes it far harder to inactivate than an enveloped virus like SARS-CoV-2, and it is the organism behind most gastro outbreaks in aged care, childcare, hospitality and cruise work. Four minutes wet, on every surface, is what the claim depends on. On a warm or porous surface that usually means a second application.

Keep this table on file. It is what an auditor, an infection-control officer or a hygienist will ask for, and it is the difference between a defensible disinfection record and an assertion.

Application

Thymox is highly effective on most hard and soft surfaces including furniture, bedding, carpet, timber, floors and walls, bench tops, appliances, equipment, windows, metals, glazed porcelain, steel, brass, aluminium, sealed concrete, polystyrene, plastic, polypropylene and PVC.

Directions

1. Disinfection: spray to thoroughly wet the surface. Maintain wetness for the required contact time above. Allow to air dry, or wipe.
2. Cleaning and deodorising: spray and wipe. Allow a few minutes standing time on heavy soil.
3. Fogging: Thymox can be applied through a ULV fogger or electrostatic sprayer in vacant areas. See the fogging guide below.

Pre-clean first where there is organic soil. Organic load consumes biocide, and no listed disinfectant performs to its claim over grease, blood or faecal matter. Clean, then disinfect, then time it.

Safety

This is one of the few chemicals in our range that is genuinely not classified, and we have verified it rather than asserting it.

Per Safety Data Sheet version 1.0, issued 8 October 2025, Thymox is “NON-HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL. NON-DANGEROUS GOODS” under the Model WHS Regulations and the ADG Code.

• Signal word: not applicable — the product is not classified
• No GHS hazard categories and no hazard statements
• HAZCHEM code: not applicable. Poisons schedule: not applicable.
• Transport: not regulated for the transport of dangerous goods — no DG surcharge, which matters at 20 litres
• Active: thymol, 0.23% by weight
• pH: 4.0 to 6.0 per the SDS. Actichem’s product page states 6.0.
• PPE: the SDS states protective equipment is not normally required for eyes, skin, hands, feet or body. Follow the label.

That combination is genuinely unusual. Most hospital grade disinfectants in this catalogue are corrosive concentrates — Biosan II is UN3267 Class 8 with signal word DANGER and H314. Thymox delivers a hospital grade listing with no classification, no dilution step and no dangerous goods handling. If you are working around vulnerable people, in occupied buildings, or with staff you would rather not put in goggles and elbow-length gloves, that is the reason to choose it.

Compatibility

The SDS names strong acids and strong oxidising agents as incompatible. In practice, do not mix Thymox with Grout Restore 20, Crete Clean, Rust Remover or any acid descaler, and do not mix it with Chlorosan, Perox or any hypochlorite or peroxide.

Thymox is supplied ready to use, so there is no reason to mix it with anything. Apply it to a cleaned, rinsed surface.

Specifications

Choosing Between the Listed Disinfectants

• Thymox — hospital grade, AUST L 400439. Not classified, ready to use, no PPE normally required. The one to choose around vulnerable people, in occupied buildings, and on textiles.
• Actichem Biosan II — hospital grade, AUST L 332364. A concentrate at 1:16 to 1:64, so far cheaper per treated surface, but the drum is UN3267 Class 8 corrosive, DANGER, H314. Note it also affects the stain-resist treatment on 5th and 6th generation nylon.
• Actichem Percide — hospital grade, AUST L 332284. Peroxide based, ready to use, WARNING rather than DANGER and not dangerous goods. The strongest mould performer of the three.
• Actichem Forest Fresh — Commercial Disinfectant Grade, not hospital grade. Appropriate for the majority of commercial cleaning, but not where a scope specifies hospital grade.

The short version: Thymox for ease and safety, Biosan II for cost per litre, Percide for mould. All three are TGA listed and all three depend on contact time.
