Product Overview

Actichem Tile & Grout Cleaner LF uses cutting-edge technology to simplify and enhance the effectiveness of your tile and hard-surface cleaning operations. It is designed for use with hard surface cleaning equipment. The significant difference with this product is that it is ultra-low-foaming. Formulated with nano surfactant chemistry for penetration and soil release, it gives the professional cleaner an alkaline cleaning solution that delivers dependable results every time.

This 15 litre pack is the production size for contractors running machines daily. Actichem Tile & Grout Cleaner LF replaces Tile & Grout Cleaner Pro. Where older method sheets — including Actichem’s own — specify “T&G Cleaner Pro” as the neutralising rinse after acid restoration, LF is the current product.

Application Areas and Surface Suitability

Suitable for use on all man-made tiles, natural stone products, clay products, concrete and grout. Avoid contact with non-ferrous metals, plated metals, painted surfaces, and flooring coated with an acrylic polymer or wax.

Ideal anywhere there are dirty tiles, concrete, stone or resilient flooring. Especially good in kitchens, dining areas, malls and large commercial areas, and for the maintenance and cleaning of commercial and public areas.

How to Use

1. Read and understand the SDS before use.
2. Always pre-test in an inconspicuous location for substrate sensitivity to chemicals.

Dilution

• Heavy-duty applications — 1 part Tile & Grout Cleaner LF to 4 to 9 parts water. Hot water will enhance the chemical action.
• Standard cleaning applications — 1 part to 50 to 100 parts water.
• As a neutralising rinse after acid restoration — 1:300 (30 ml per 10 litres).

Application — heavy duty

1. Apply the solution with a clean mop and bucket, an auto-scrubber, or a rotary scrubber solution tank. Apply to a limited area at a time. Do not allow the solution to dry.
2. Scrub thoroughly with an applicable nylon scouring floor pad or brush.
3. Allow 10 to 30 minutes dwell time and re-agitate areas of stubborn soiling.
4. Extract or pick up the resultant slurry with professional tile extraction equipment and rinse thoroughly with clear water.

Application — maintenance

Follow standard cleaning techniques. No clear water rinse is needed when using at 1:100. Ideal through auto-scrubbers and similar equipment.

Safety

Please read this section even if you have used this product before. Earlier versions of this page recorded the safety profile as non-hazardous, and stated that because the product is not classified as dangerous goods it is “substantially safer in use and in transport”. The transport half of that is right. The use half is not, and we have corrected it.

“Hazardous chemical” and “dangerous goods” are two separate determinations. A product can be perfectly ordinary to freight and still burn your eyes. Tile & Grout Cleaner LF is one of those.

It is classified as a HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL under the Model WHS Regulations, and it is not classified as dangerous goods. It is a Poisons Schedule 6 substance.

On “mildly alkaline”. pH 12.8 is not mild. It is roughly one pH unit — a factor of ten in hydroxide concentration — below Tile & Grout Power, which is a Class 8 corrosive. LF is genuinely gentler than Power on substrates and does not carry H314, but the concentrate still causes serious eye damage. It is the diluted working solution that is mild, not the drum.

Personal protective equipment

The SDS specifies chemical goggles, elbow-length gloves, overalls and a PVC apron. The glove materials named are butyl, PE, EVAL and PE/Saranex 23 — nitrile is not among them, which is worth knowing given the glycol ether content. Decanting from a 15 litre drum into a solution tank is when concentrate splashes; wear the goggles for it.

First aid

Eyes. Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing and immediately call a Poisons Information Centre or doctor.

Skin. Remove contaminated clothing and wash with soap and water. Seek medical attention if irritation occurs.

Mixing and Compatibility

Incompatible with strong acids and oxidising agents. This matters here more than usual, because LF is the product specified as the neutralising rinse after acid restoration — so acid and alkali are deliberately brought together on the same job.

That is safe at 1:300. It is not safe at concentration. Neutralisation releases heat, and a strong acid meeting a strong alkali in a bucket can boil and spit. Always dilute LF to 1:300 with water first, then apply it to the rinsed floor. Never pour concentrate onto spilled or undiluted acid product.

Also avoid contact with non-ferrous and plated metals — alkali attacks aluminium and the reaction produces hydrogen.

Choosing Between the Hard Floor Chemicals

• Actichem Tile & Grout Cleaner LF 5 Ltr — the same product in the smaller pack
• Actichem Tile & Grout Power — pH 14, Class 8 corrosive. Step up to this only when LF will not shift heavy grease, oil or carbon.
• Actichem Tile & Grout Restore — acid, for mineral scale, cement smear and efflorescence. Alkaline cleaners will not touch those.
• Actichem Proneutro — the alternative neutralising rinse

The short version: LF is the everyday machine cleaner and the neutralising rinse. Power is the heavy hitter. The restorers are for scale and cement, not grease.
