Product Overview

Power Strip is a new-generation floor coating stripper designed to work quickly and effectively, saving you time and money. It is built to tackle tough solvent sealers and polish build-ups on resilient flooring such as terracotta, terrazzo and concrete.

It is a solvent-and-amine stripper, not a caustic one. That is what gives it its speed on solvent-based coatings, and it is also why the safety section below matters.

Application Areas and Surface Suitability

For removing solvent sealers, base sealers and polish build-ups from natural stone, concrete and terrazzo.

Do not use on wood, vinyl, linoleum or plastic flooring. This is the most important line on the page. Power Strip contains benzyl alcohol and glycol ether at high concentration and will attack vinyl and linoleum. There is no dilution at which it becomes safe on those substrates.

How to Use

1. Read and understand the SDS before use.
2. Always pre-test in an inconspicuous location.
3. Dilute at 1:10 for light build-ups, or up to 1:4 for heavy build-up and UHS burnished coatings.

Directions

1. Sweep the area thoroughly to remove any soiling that could damage the floor if caught under scrubbing equipment.
2. Apply the solution liberally with a cotton mop, ensuring the area is thoroughly wet. Always work in small, controllable areas.
3. Allow at least 5 minutes dwell time, then agitate with a low-speed rotary scrubber or auto-scrubber fitted with a black, brown or high-productivity pad.
4. Be careful that the area does not dry out on the surface.
5. After scrubbing, pick up the slurry and rinse thoroughly with clean water so that all stripper and sealer residues are removed.
6. Allow the floor to dry before proceeding with the restoration process, and re-strip any areas still carrying polish build-up or missed in the first pass.

Safety

Please read this section even if you have used this product before. Earlier versions of this page recorded the safety profile as non-hazardous. That was wrong, and we have corrected it against the current Safety Data Sheet.

Power Strip is classified as a HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL and DANGEROUS GOODS under the Model WHS Regulations and the ADG Code. It sits under Poisons Schedules 4, 5 and 6.

• Transport: proper shipping name ETHANOLAMINE SOLUTION. The SDS states it is not regulated for dangerous goods transport in packs of 5 litres or less, so this 5 litre pack falls within that exemption.

What is in it, and why that matters

Per the SDS: benzyl alcohol 30 to 60%; monoethanolamine 10 to less than 30%; ethylene glycol monobutyl ether 10 to less than 30%; a proprietary solvent 10 to less than 30%; with nonylphenol ethoxylate, triethanolamine and proprietary surfactants each below 10%.

That is a high solvent and amine load. Three practical consequences:

• Ventilate. Stripping is done over large floor areas with the solution kept wet for minutes at a time. Open the building up or run mechanical ventilation — this is not a product to use in a sealed room.
• It attacks plastics. That is the reason for the vinyl and linoleum restriction, and it applies to your equipment too — check hoses, gaskets and squeegees.
• Skin contact is a burn risk, not just an irritation risk. H314 with monoethanolamine at up to 30% is a genuine corrosive.

Personal protective equipment

The SDS specifies elbow-length PVC gloves, chemical goggles or safety glasses with side shields, overalls and a PVC apron. Use warning signage — a wet stripper floor is both slippery and corrosive to anyone who walks onto it.

First aid

Eyes. Immediately hold the eyelids apart and flush the eye continuously with running water for at least 15 minutes, or until advised to stop by a Poisons Information Centre.

Skin. Remove contaminated clothing immediately and flush with large amounts of water, continuing until advised to stop.

Never Mix With Chlorine or Acid

The SDS names strong oxidising agents — nitrates, oxidising acids, pool chlorine and chlorine bleach — and strong acids as incompatible. Never mix, and never allow contact in a bucket, auto-scrubber tank, drain or on the floor, with:

• Actichem Chlorosan, Mould Exterminator, pool chlorine or any hypochlorite sanitiser
• Actichem Grout Restore 60, Grout Restore 20, Tile & Grout Restore, Crete Clean or any acid descaler

Also avoid copper and aluminium alloys. The SDS names both. That includes decanting containers, pump-up sprayers and machine fittings, not just the floor.
