Product Overview
Actichem’s MethSan range is formulated to target the residues left by the manufacture and use of methamphetamine and other clandestine drugs.
Contamination is never uniform. Depending on the ingredients used, the cooking process, how far a room sits from the activity area, and how long that activity went on, a single property can carry a wide range of contamination levels from room to room. The MethSan system is built around that variability rather than assuming one strength suits everything.
What makes the system different is that it does not rely on oxidisers alone. Alongside the oxidising chemistry that breaks down chemical and biological residues, it uses a blend of two ingredients with a strong affinity for the micro-carbon soils produced when hydrocarbons and other chemicals are heated and cooked. That pairing releases and suspends soils that have embedded themselves into paintwork and porous surfaces — which is where meth residue characteristically hides, and why surface wiping alone does not resolve it.
Which pack size do you need?
This is the 5 litre pack, suited to a single property or a smaller remediation. The 20 litre is the better buy for regular remediation work — but see the note on shelf life below before buying ahead.
The MethSan system
MethSan is a multi-part decontamination system, not a single product. The parts are designed to be used together in sequence, and ordering one without the others will leave you unable to complete the method.

Fog Boost or Foam Boost? The choice is about how you are getting the chemistry onto the surface, not about how strong it is. Fog Boost is for fogging or ULV application, where you are treating whole rooms, wall and ceiling surfaces and cavities. Foam Boost is for foam application, where dwell time on vertical surfaces is what you need. Many jobs use both at different stages.
MethSan Part A
Part A is the oxidising half of the main wash.
- Potentiated hydrogen peroxide — a peroxide blend formulated to enhance its oxidising activity well beyond what the peroxide concentration alone would suggest.
- Super wetting agents — rapid penetration into porous surfaces, which is where the residue is.
- Breaks down organic residues including bacterial and mould contamination commonly present in these properties alongside the drug residue.
A note on what we do and do not claim. This listing previously described Part A as providing “powerful complementary anti-microbial action tackling bacteria, viruses and mould”. We have removed that wording. Terms like antimicrobial, sanitiser and disinfectant are regulated in Australia, and we can find no ARTG or APVMA listing for this product. Hydrogen peroxide is a genuine and effective oxidiser against organic contamination — that much is chemistry — but we are not prepared to make a regulated efficacy claim we cannot evidence. We have asked Actichem whether a listing exists. If one does, we will say so and quote the number.
Main wash and decontamination
The main wash has to ensure the residues are either physically removed or chemically deactivated. That is a genuine challenge given the range of chemicals typically involved, the way they deposit onto surfaces, and the variety of substrates in a normal house. Targeted oxidation working in tandem with the micro-carbon residue chemistry is what gives the system its reliability.
Working to a remediation standard
Methamphetamine decontamination is not a cleaning job with a stronger chemical. It is a remediation process that has to be documented and validated. Chemistry is one input.
- Assess before you treat. Contamination varies enormously between properties, and within a single property, depending on what was cooked or smoked, for how long, where, and how the air moved. Pre-remediation sampling tells you where you actually stand.
- Work to the applicable guideline. Australian remediation work is conducted with reference to the Commonwealth Clandestine Drug Laboratory Remediation Guidelines and the relevant state or territory health department requirements. Confirm the current clearance criteria applying to your job before you quote it.
- Validate afterwards. Post-remediation sampling is what closes the job out. No chemical, including this one, can be claimed to have achieved clearance without it.
- Document everything. Products used, dilutions, methods, dwell times, areas treated, and the sampling results. This is a job that gets reviewed after the fact.
We supply the chemistry. We are not in a position to certify a property, and neither is any product. If you are new to meth remediation, get trained and get an independent sampler involved before you take the work on.
Safety
This listing previously carried no safety information at all. That was an omission on our part and it has been corrected.
Actichem’s safety data sheet for DR610, version 1.1 issued 9 August 2023, classifies MethSan Part A as a hazardous chemical with the signal word WARNING.
- H319 — causes serious eye irritation (Eye Irritation Category 2)
- Not a dangerous good. No poisons schedule. HAZCHEM 2P.
In fairness to the product, Part A is the milder half of this system. One hazard statement, near-neutral at pH 6.2, and hydrogen peroxide below 8%. The Prewash and both Part B boosters are classified DANGER with serious eye damage. If you are setting up your PPE for a MethSan job, set it for the worst product in the kit, not this one.
The practical risk with Part A is that it is commonly fogged or sprayed, often overhead, in an enclosed space you have deliberately sealed. Chemical goggles rather than safety glasses, and appropriate respiratory protection for the application method. An eyewash unit should be on site.
⚠ Part A and Part B — storage and mixing
This deserves a moment because the safety data sheets read confusingly if you take them in isolation.
- Part A is an oxidiser. Its sheet says to keep it away from reducing agents, acids, alkalis and combustible organic matter.
- Both Part B products are alkaline (pH 10.1 – 10.7) and their sheets say they are incompatible with oxidising agents.
Read literally, each says to keep away from the other. In practice these statements are about bulk storage and uncontrolled mixing, not about the working solution the system is designed around. What that means on the job:
- Store the parts separately. Not on the same pallet, not in the same bund, not stacked on each other in the van.
- Combine only at the point of use, at the dilution and in the order Actichem specifies for the method you are using.
- Use mixed solution promptly and do not keep it. Do not mix a batch today for tomorrow.
- Never seal mixed solution in a closed container. Peroxide solutions decompose slowly and release oxygen. A sealed drum or a capped pump-up left overnight builds pressure. Vent it, or better, do not store it at all.
- Never add anything else — no acids, no chlorine products, no other cleaners. This system is chemistry, and adding a third thing to it is how people get hurt.
Storage and shelf life
Hydrogen peroxide solutions decompose slowly over time, releasing oxygen. Two consequences worth knowing:
- Keep containers vented as supplied. Do not decant Part A into a sealed, non-vented container and leave it.
- Old stock is weaker stock. Peroxide loses activity in storage. On a job where the result is going to be validated by sampling, working from a drum that has sat in a hot shed for two years is a false economy. Rotate stock and buy to the size of the work in front of you.
Store cool, out of direct sunlight, away from reducing agents, acids, alkalis and combustible organic matter.
First aid
Eyes. Wash out immediately with fresh running water for 10 to 15 minutes, holding the eyelids apart. Seek medical attention if pain persists.
Skin. Remove contaminated clothing and flush with running water.
Swallowed. Rinse the mouth with water. Seek medical advice.
