Product Overview
Fibre Shield is a premium carpet protector — an advanced water-based fluorochemical polymer formulated for nylon and wool carpeting.
It creates a durable, highly repellent property on each fibre. That repellency, together with specialty red dye blockers, holds spills close to the surface so they can be removed before they stain permanently. It also repels dry soil and releases it to vacuuming, which is what promotes carpet longevity.
Which pack size do you need?
This is the 5 litre pack. At 1:4 that makes 25 litres of working solution — enough for a great deal of carpet. The 1 litre suits occasional use or a first trial.
Which protector do you need?
- Fibre Shield (this product) — for nylon and wool carpet.
- Fabric Shield RTU — water based, for water-cleanable upholstery, drapes and tablecloths.
- Fabric Shield SV — solvent based, for dry-clean-only fabrics. Classified DANGER with H226 and H304, Poisons Schedule 5. Use it only where a water-based product genuinely cannot be used.

- Red stain protection — specialty acid-dye blockers for red cordial spills. This is the feature customers actually care about. Red cordial is the classic unrecoverable carpet stain, because the dye chemically bonds to nylon and wool rather than sitting on the fibre.
- Dry soil removal — makes vacuuming genuinely more effective. On a domestic carpet, most soil is dry soil, so this contributes more to appearance retention over time than the spill protection does.

How to Use
Always pre-test in an inconspicuous location for substrate sensitivity.
Preparation — this is where protector jobs succeed or fail
- The carpet must be clean and free of chemical residue. A protector locks in whatever is already there. Applying it over prespray residue seals soil into the fibre and wastes the treatment.
- If you have wet-extraction cleaned first, finish with an acid rinse. This is the step most often skipped and it matters twice over: it removes alkaline residue that would otherwise interfere with the protector film, and it returns wool to the slightly acidic condition it prefers.
- Leave the carpet as dry as possible before applying. It can go onto dry or damp carpet, but a soaking carpet dilutes the protector unpredictably.
Dilution

The two dilutions deliver the same amount of active to the fibre — the difference is how much water the carpet is already carrying. Using the dry-carpet dilution on a damp carpet under-protects it. Refer to the Actichem protector coverage charts for larger jobs.
Application
- Spray from 25 to 50 cm away using a smooth back-and-forth motion, overlapping slightly.
- Apply one coat to high-traffic areas first. Then, starting from one end of the room, treat the whole carpeted area including the high-traffic areas already done. High-traffic lanes wear their protection off first, so they get the double application.
- Brush with a soft brush to spread the protector evenly. Not optional — unbrushed protector dries unevenly and leaves patches that repel and patches that do not.
- Align the pile and speed dry.
Setting customer expectations
Worth saying to the customer before you start, because it prevents the most common complaint:
- Protector buys time, not immunity. It holds a spill at the surface so it can be blotted up. It does not make carpet stain-proof, and a spill left overnight will still stain.
- It wears. Traffic lanes lose protection faster than the rest of the room, which is why they get two coats.
- It has to be re-applied after cleaning, because cleaning removes it along with the soil.

Safety
Verified non-hazardous — and we checked.
Actichem’s safety data sheet for AP470, version 2.3 issued 5 September 2025, records Fibre Shield as a non-hazardous chemical and non-dangerous goods. No signal word, no hazard statements, no GHS classification, no poisons schedule.
We are being explicit because we have been correcting a great many pages in this catalogue that claimed “non-hazardous” when the safety data sheet said otherwise. This one is correct.
Non-hazardous does not mean careless. It is sprayed across a whole floor, so work with ventilation and wear eye protection while spraying.
What it reacts with
Avoid oxidising agents. Do not mix it with anything else.
First aid
Eyes. Rinse immediately with water.
Skin. Flush with running water.
Inhalation. Remove to fresh air.
Swallowed. Give water and seek medical advice if concerned.
