Actichem Chlorosan is a thickened chlorine detergent, disinfectant and mould remover with a vast variety of applications. The highly available chlorine content and excellent detergency give this thickened product the ability to not only clean, whiten and kill bacteria, viruses and mould but stay on the job longer, especially on vertical surfaces. Its unique foaming ability makes it the product of choice when using foam-generating equipment for cleaning washrooms, abattoirs, butcheries and food preparation environments. This listing is the 15 litre bulk pack.

How to use
Read and understand the safety data sheet before use. Pre-test in an inconspicuous location before use.
Dilutions
- For use as a sanitiser to remove mould, mildew, germs and bacteria, use undiluted.
- For use as a general cleaner in outdoor areas, washrooms, kitchens, etc, dilute 30 ml Chlorosan per litre of water.
- Follow the equipment manufacturer's instructions when using it in a foam generator.
Application
- For sanitisation, apply through a squeeze bottle. Squirt onto the surface, agitate and allow at least 10 minutes dwell time for maximum anti-bacterial action. Rinse well with clear water.
- For general cleaning, make up the solution in a clean vessel and mop or wash down surfaces using standard cleaning techniques. Rinse with potable water.
Safety
This listing previously described Chlorosan as non-hazardous. That was wrong, and on this product it was seriously wrong. It has been corrected. Actichem's safety data sheet for AP720, version 4.3 issued 22 December 2025, classifies Chlorosan as a HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL and DANGEROUS GOODS under the WHS Regulations and the ADG Code.
- Signal word: DANGER
- Skin Corrosion / Irritation Category 1B and Serious Eye Damage Category 1 - H314, causes severe skin burns and eye damage
- STOT Single Exposure Category 3 - H335, may cause respiratory irritation
- AUH031 - contact with acid liberates toxic gas
- HAZCHEM 2X. Not regulated for transport in packs of 5 litres or less - this 15 litre pack is above that threshold and is regulated for transport
Never mix Chlorosan with an acid. This is the warning that matters most on this product. Chlorosan contains sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide. Contact with any acidic product liberates chlorine gas. That includes acid rinses, rust removers, tile and grout restorers, concrete cleaners and many toilet cleaners - products a professional cleaner is very likely to have on the same van. Never combine them in a bucket, a sprayer, a floor scrubber tank or a drain, and rinse equipment thoroughly between products.
⚠ Never mix Chlorosan with ammonia or an ammoniated cleaner either. Hypochlorite and ammonia react to form chloramine gas, which causes severe respiratory injury and can be fatal in a confined space such as a bathroom, sub-floor or plant room.
In our own range that means Actichem Bust and Actichem Protein Spotter — both are alkaline ammoniated spotters, and both are commonly carried in the same kit as a chlorine product. It also includes household ammonia and many glass and multi-purpose cleaners.
If a chlorine step and a protein or urine step are both required on the same job, rinse thoroughly with clean water between them, ventilate, and use separate clearly labelled equipment. Never spray one onto a surface still wet with the other.
At 15 litres this is a bulk container. Decant only into clearly labelled, chlorine-compatible containers, and never into a bottle that has held an ammoniated or acidic product.
It is corrosive, not merely irritant. H314 means it burns skin and causes irreversible eye damage. That matters especially because the instruction above is to use it undiluted as a sanitiser - the highest-exposure way this product is used. Decanting from a 15 litre pack is where the worst splashes happen; set up a proper decanting station rather than tipping it over a bucket.
Personal protective equipment specified in the safety data sheet:
- Chemical goggles
- Elbow-length PVC gloves
- Overalls and a PVC apron
- Access to a safety shower and an eye wash unit
If it enters an eye, flush continuously with water for a minimum of 15 minutes, holding the eyelids apart, and seek immediate medical attention - the sheet calls for irrigation to continue for 20 to 30 minutes. If it contacts skin, remove contaminated clothing immediately and flush with water and soap. Do not store or use near acids or oxidising agents.
