Product Overview

Actichem’s Hypo Enforcer is the core proprietary ingredient used to make Mould Exterminator the amazing product that it is. Hypo Enforcer is like a nitrous boost to the chlorine power in Sodium Hypochlorite. On its own, Sodium Hypochlorite will only actually release a small percentage of its real power when applied to a mould-affected surface. This is due to its in-built stabilisation mechanism and its poor wetting ability. When you add Hypo Enforcer, Sodium Hypochlorite comes alive. You will immediately extract every single atom of power out of the Chlorine molecule, and drive that power right down deep into the roots and hyphae of the mould and thoroughly destroy it.

Hypo Enforcer is an additive, not a stand-alone mould treatment. It is supplied as a concentrate and is mixed into sodium hypochlorite before use. This 1 litre pack is the trial and small-job size — one litre makes up a single 15 litre batch.

What Hypo Enforcer Is — and What It Is Not

Despite the name, Hypo Enforcer contains no hypochlorite and no chlorine of any kind. The Safety Data Sheet (version 1.3, 25 December 2025) lists sodium carbonate, sodium metasilicate pentahydrate, sodium lauryl ether sulphate and two proprietary surfactants. It is an alkaline builder and super-wetting surfactant package. The chlorine comes entirely from the sodium hypochlorite you add to it.

Two practical consequences follow, and both matter on site:

• Hypo Enforcer will not kill mould or sanitise anything on its own. It has no biocidal claim. It is a carrier and activator for hypochlorite.
• The mixed working solution is a hypochlorite solution and carries every hazard hypochlorite carries — including the liberation of chlorine gas on contact with acid — even though the Hypo Enforcer concentrate on its own does not.

How It Works

Hypo Enforcer + Chlorine’s unique, super-wetting formula provides consistent, reliable results in mould remediation every time. Its powerful stain removal can be seen almost instantly when applied to mould-affected surfaces. Hypo Enforcer + Chlorine penetrates deep into the affected surface and destroys the mould hyphae and root system.

To be clear about what that does and does not promise: clearance on a remediation job depends on the whole process — containment, source removal, physical removal of contaminated material, drying, and independent verification. No single product delivers a clearance result. Hypo Enforcer is one step in that process, and its job is to make the chlorine step work harder.

Mixing

Actichem’s stated ratio:

• Add 1 litre of Hypo Enforcer to 15 litres of 12.5% sodium hypochlorite (pool chlorine). Mix well.

This 1 litre pack therefore makes up one 15 litre batch of treated hypochlorite. If you are treating chlorine in larger volumes, the 5 litre pack treats up to 75 litres and is the better value.

Mix in a clean, well-ventilated area, outdoors or under mechanical ventilation. Add the Hypo Enforcer to the hypochlorite, not the other way around, and never mix in a container that has held an acid product. Use only fresh, clean equipment.

If you would rather not handle 12.5% pool chlorine yourself, Actichem supply the same chemistry pre-blended as Actichem Mould Exterminator, which contains sodium hypochlorite at less than 10% together with the same surfactant package. Mould Exterminator is classified as dangerous goods; Hypo Enforcer on its own is not.

Directions for Use

1. Pre-test in an inconspicuous location before treating the whole area.
2. Remove loose debris and surface contamination.
3. Apply the mixed solution by spray, mop or cloth.
4. Agitate areas with heavy build-up.
5. Allow a minimum 1 minute dwell time for disinfection, or 10 minutes for mould remediation.
6. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
7. Repeat where organic loading is heavy.

Application Areas and Surface Suitability

Ideal for use in uninhabited buildings, strip-outs, sub-floors, external walling, landscape structures, roofs and pathways. Suitable for natural stone, ceramic and porcelain, concrete and masonry.

Do not use on carpets, fabrics or sensitive surfaces. This is Actichem’s own restriction and it is worth stating plainly, because Hypo Enforcer is sold alongside carpet and upholstery chemistry. The mixed solution is a strong hypochlorite bleach and will destroy dyes and damage fibres. For mould odour and staining on textiles, ask us for a textile-appropriate product instead.

Safety

Please read this section even if you have used this product before. Earlier versions of this page carried no safety information at all. That was an omission on our part and we have corrected it.

Hypo Enforcer is classified as a HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL under the Model WHS Regulations. It is not classified as dangerous goods for transport.

• pH as supplied: 11.5 – 11.9

Personal protective equipment. Elbow-length chemical protective gloves (neoprene or butyl are recommended), and chemical goggles or safety glasses with side shields. H318 means eye contact can cause irreversible damage — goggles are not optional when decanting or mixing. Where spraying produces mist, or where ventilation is limited, use a respirator with a Type A filter.

First aid — eyes. Wash out immediately with fresh running water for 10 to 15 minutes, holding the eyelids open to ensure complete irrigation. Immediately call a Poisons Information Centre or doctor.

First aid — skin. Immediately remove all contaminated clothing including footwear. Flush skin and hair with running water and soap. Seek medical attention if irritation develops.

A note on SDS versions. The current sheet is version 1.3, issued 25 December 2025. The previous version 1.2, issued 6 April 2023, additionally classified the product Acute Toxicity (Inhalation) Category 3 with H331 — toxic if inhaled, and listed sodium tripolyphosphate rather than sodium metasilicate. If you hold the 2023 sheet in your safety file, replace it. If your risk assessment was built on the 2023 classification, review it.

Never Mix With Acid

Hypo Enforcer is used with sodium hypochlorite, and hypochlorite liberates chlorine gas on contact with acid. Chlorine gas causes severe respiratory injury and can be fatal in a confined space such as a bathroom, sub-floor or plant room.

Never mix the Hypo Enforcer working solution — or allow it to pool, run into, or share equipment with — any of the following acid products we also supply:

• Actichem Rust Remover
• Actichem Crete Clean
• Actichem Grout Restore 60 and the other tile and grout restorers
• Any acid rinse, descaler, toilet bowl cleaner or efflorescence remover

Also never mix with ammonia or ammoniated cleaners, which form chloramine gas with hypochlorite — a gas that causes severe respiratory injury and can be fatal in a confined space such as a bathroom, sub-floor or roof cavity. In our own range that means Actichem Bust and Actichem Protein Spotter, both alkaline ammoniated spotters commonly carried in the same kit as a chlorine product. It also includes household ammonia and many glass and multi-purpose cleaners. Never spray one onto a surface still wet with the other. This matters especially here, because Hypo Enforcer is mixed on site with sodium hypochlorite — the working solution is a hypochlorite solution, and the same incompatibilities apply to it as to the chlorine product itself. If you are running an acid step and a chlorine step on the same job, rinse thoroughly with clean water between them and use separate, clearly labelled equipment.
