Actichem Airfresh Spray 5 Ltr

Airfresh Spray is Actichem's ready-to-use aerial odour control spray - the one you reach for when the remediation work is finished and the smell is still hanging in the air. It uses Elimotech essential-oil chemistry to pair with odour molecules and convert them into inert, non-reversible compounds, so the odour is eliminated rather than masked. This listing is the 5 litre pack.

It is the right product for finishing off a job: localised areas too small to justify fogging equipment, or areas where you want minimum residue. It is the wrong product if the odour source is still physically present - deal with that first.

Please read the safety section below before you order. There is an unresolved discrepancy between Actichem's current product information and the safety data sheet we hold, and we would rather you knew about it than not.

Product description

Simply cleaning an area will not remove odour molecules. Bad odours exist in the air and are trapped in fabrics, carpets and porous materials. Even after a thorough disinfection and wash-down, residual odour compounds persist. In addition to a cleaning routine, you need an odour control strategy.

Elimotech works at a micro-molecular level. It pairs with trapped, embedded and airborne odour compounds and forms inert molecules that cannot revert - which is the difference between eliminating an odour and perfuming over it.

Where it earns its place

Airfresh Spray is primarily a stand-alone aerial room spray, misted through a trigger spray or pressure sprayer.

• Localised areas - too small to be worth setting up fogging equipment.
• Low-residue work - where a fogged deposit would be unwelcome.
• Spray and wipe - smooth surfaces, appliances and household items.
• Injection - directly into cushions, upholstery, carpeting and soft furnishings, where the odour is inside the item rather than on it.
• Final step - typically used once remediation work is complete.

Important - this is not a fogging chemical

Do not apply Airfresh Spray with a wet or thermal fogger. It is formulated for spray application. If you need to treat a whole space through fogging equipment, that is the Odourtak range, not this product.

How to use

Dilution

Airfresh Spray is supplied ready to use - no dilution required.

For light applications it can be diluted 1:1 with water or methylated spirits. When injecting into cushioning, diluting 1:1 to 1:3 with methylated spirits aids spreading through the filling.

Application

1. Remove or cover all food, food equipment, and anything that may be adversely affected by solvents.
2. Mist the areas requiring treatment. Avoid over-application.
3. On surfaces, spray the mist directly on, allow 5-10 minutes reaction time, then wipe dry with an absorbent cloth.
4. For soft furnishings, inject directly into the cushioning. Over-application here can deform the filling.

The treated area can usually be reoccupied within 30 minutes.

Wear suitable respiratory protection when spraying in large quantities.

Safety - please read before you order

We are being upfront about a discrepancy on this product rather than picking whichever answer suits us.

The safety data sheet Carpet Cleaners Warehouse holds for Airfresh Spray is version 1.1, issued 12 August 2021, under Actichem product code RG551. It classifies the product as:

• Non-hazardous chemical under the Model WHS Regulations
• Non-dangerous goods under the ADG Code
• No GHS classification, no signal word, no hazard statements
• All ingredients non-hazardous; no personal protective equipment specified as required

That sheet also records the product as non-combustible, with flash point and flammability "not applicable", a boiling point of 100 degrees C, miscible in water, relative density 1, pH 7-8, clear and colourless with a powder floral odour.

Here is the problem. Actichem's current product page describes Airfresh Spray as being based on a volatile, polar solvent, recommends dilution with methylated spirits, and warns that the product is flammable and that fire hazards should be avoided. A volatile, methylated-spirits-miscible solvent product is not usually non-combustible with no flash point. The two documents are difficult to reconcile, and the safety data sheet is now five years old.

There is also a product code discrepancy: our variant SKU is RG511.05 and Actichem's current product page gives RG511, but the safety data sheet itself says RG551.

What we are doing about it. We have asked Actichem to confirm the current product code and to supply the current safety data sheet. Until they do, we are publishing the sheet we hold, dated, so you can see exactly what it says and how old it is.

What we suggest you do. Treat Airfresh Spray as flammable until Actichem confirm otherwise. Keep it away from ignition sources, and do not assume the absence of a signal word on a 2021 sheet describes the product in the bottle today. Frequently asked questions

Do I need to dilute it?

No. Airfresh Spray is supplied ready to use. You can dilute 1:1 with water or methylated spirits for light applications, and 1:1 to 1:3 with methylated spirits when injecting into cushioning to help it spread.

Can I run it through my fogger?

No. Actichem specify that it is not to be applied with a wet or thermal fogger. For whole-space fogging, use the Odourtak range.

Is it hazardous?

The safety data sheet we hold, dated August 2021, says no - non-hazardous, non-dangerous goods, no signal word. But Actichem's current product page describes the product as flammable and solvent-based, which that sheet does not support. Until they clarify, treat it as flammable and keep it away from ignition sources.

How long before the area can be used again?

Usually about 30 minutes after treatment.

Why did my cushion go out of shape?

Over-application. Injecting too much solution into filling can deform it. Use less than you think you need and repeat if necessary.

What is the difference between this and Odourtak?

Application method more than chemistry. Airfresh Spray is sprayed or injected into a localised area with minimum residue. Odourtak is fogged through equipment to treat a whole space at once.
