The Dri-Eaz WetChec is a handy instrument that allows for quick moisture checking. An audible signal is emitted when moisture levels exceed 17%.
Its Real Job Is the Conversation
The hardest part of a drying job is often not the drying — it is explaining to an owner or an adjuster why equipment has to stay in a room that looks and feels dry. Handing them something they can use themselves converts an argument into a demonstration.
It is an indicative device. It does not replace the calibrated readings in your moisture log, and it should not be presented as though it does.
What It Does and Does Not Do
- It gives a yes/no signal: it sounds when the reading passes Dri-Eaz's 17% trigger point.
- It does not display a number, store readings or produce a record for a drying report.
- Dri-Eaz does not publish which materials the 17% trigger is referenced to, so treat a beep as "worth checking properly", not as a moisture content.
For readings that go in the job file, use a meter built for it — for example the Delmhorst BDX-20 pin meter, or a Dri-Eaz HydroSensor II for carpet and underlay.
Using It as a Leave-Behind
Dri-Eaz designed the WetChec as a promotional tool as much as an instrument. It has a recessed ID area on the face for a label with your business name and phone number.
- Label size to suit the recess: 1-7/8 in wide × 9/16 in high (about 48 × 14 mm), per Dri-Eaz.
- Hand one to the owner at the first visit and show them a wet and a dry area. They can check progress themselves between monitoring visits.
- Leave them with adjusters, builders and property managers who refer water damage work.
