Product Overview
Actichem Colloidal Boost is a cleaning booster additive. It is a concentrated blend of modern cleaning and stain-removal technology, combining super-wetting agents and penetrants with radical-strength emulsification chemistry, further enhanced by stain-removal technology used in the textile industry.
Colloidal Boost does not rely on harsh solvents or highly alkaline cleaning agents; instead it uses innovative chemical technology to deliver results, making it suited to professional carpet and upholstery cleaning.
Benefits
- Super wetting — dramatically increases the wetting power of any detergent solution. Compared with a traditional prespray detergent, Colloidal Boost increases wetting power substantially, enabling emulsifiers and stain-removal agents to penetrate more quickly and deeply into each carpet fibre and wet out difficult-to-wet oily soils.
- Dynamic emulsification — having wetted out the surface and soil, the emulsification chemistry rapidly forms micelles (emulsified oil globules) that release oily soils from the surface or fibre and hold them in suspension, ready for rinsing.
- Penetration ability — the superwetting ability also facilitates penetration into porous surfaces such as natural stone, concrete and grout.
- Chemical compatibility — can be added to most carpet and hard floor care detergents. It will not alter the ionic charge or pH of the detergent solution.
- Fibre safe — safe for use on all synthetic and most delicate fibres and fabrics, including 5th generation nylon and coloured fabrics.
- User friendly — low odour formula. Low odour is not the same as low hazard — see the Safety section below, which has been corrected.
Application Areas and Surface Suitability
Colloidal Boost is a cleaning booster additive. Use it in cleaning formulations when extra power is required to achieve a good result.
How to Use
Always pre-test in an inconspicuous location for substrate sensitivity to chemicals and dye stability.
Dilution: mix 10–20 ml Colloidal Boost into 1 litre of ready-to-use cleaning solution, then follow your normal procedure.
Tip: Colloidal Boost can also be used on its own as a spotter (dilute 1:9) or as a prespray (dilute 1:50 to 1:100).
A note on adding it to other products. Colloidal Boost is designed to boost a detergent solution without altering its pH or ionic charge — but that assumes you are adding it to a working solution, not to another concentrate. Do not mix concentrates together in the drum. Add it to the diluted solution in the tank or bucket.
Safety
Please read this section. This listing previously described Colloidal Boost as “Non-hazardous”. That was wrong. It has been corrected.
Actichem’s safety data sheet for AP475, version 2.2 issued 5 September 2025, classifies it as a HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL under the Model WHS Regulations. It is not classified as dangerous goods for transport.
- Signal word: DANGER
- H315 — causes skin irritation
- H318 — causes serious eye damage
- pH as supplied: 8.5 – 8.9 per the current SDS
- Poisons Schedule: not applicable
⚠ A correction on pH
Earlier versions of this page described Colloidal Boost as having a neutral pH and recorded it as pH 7.5. Actichem’s current safety data sheet states 8.5 – 8.9, which is mildly alkaline rather than neutral.
The practical claim still holds: at the recommended 10–20 ml per litre, adding Colloidal Boost will not meaningfully shift the pH of your working solution. But the concentrate itself is not neutral, and if you are using it undiluted as a spotter at 1:9, that is worth knowing.
⚠ H318 — this is the one that matters
H318 means causes serious eye damage — irreversible, not irritation. It is the classification driving the DANGER signal word.
Eye protection when decanting and mixing. This product is measured out in small quantities into an open bucket or tank, often at waist height — that is close-range handling of neat product. Safety glasses with open sides are not adequate for a product classified H318 — use chemical goggles.
Concentrate versus working solution
Colloidal Boost is a concentrate, and the classification above describes the product in the container — not the boosted solution at 10–20 ml per litre.
At that dilution the working solution is very much milder. But the concentrate is what you decant, and decanting is when people are hurt.
Do not mix
Actichem’s safety data sheet for this product lists incompatible materials as “none known”. We do not think that is complete, and we have raised it with them.
Because this product is designed to be added to other chemicals, one rule is worth stating plainly: add it to a diluted working solution, never to another concentrate, and never to a chlorine or peroxide product. Boosting the wetting power of an oxidiser is not what this product is for.
Personal protective equipment
Chemical goggles, and overalls where the product is handled in quantity. An eyewash unit should be available wherever this product is decanted.
First aid
Eyes. Wash out immediately with fresh running water for at least 15 minutes, holding the eyelids open to ensure complete irrigation. Immediately call a Poisons Information Centre or doctor — H318 damage is not something to assess yourself.
Skin. Remove contaminated clothing and wash the area with soap and water. Seek medical advice if irritation persists.
Swallowed. Rinse the mouth with water. Do not induce vomiting. Call a Poisons Information Centre or doctor.
