Product Overview
Biosan II Wipes are hospital grade disinfectant wipes — a single-step disinfectant with strong cleaning power, effective against a wide variety of pathogenic micro-organisms including viruses, bacteria, fungi, mould and mildew.
Kills SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19 virus). TGA listed — AUST L 332364. This is the Biosan II formulation listing, which Actichem publish for both the concentrate (AP439) and these wipes (AP622).
Suitable on smooth and porous surfaces. Biosan II Wipes were designed to give a quick, consistent way of disinfecting frequently touched points. They have been widely adopted in patient transport, where stretchers and contact surfaces need to be wiped down between jobs, and across a range of other industries including automotive.
🔴 Why a Wipe, Not a Cloth
This is the single most useful thing on this page, and most people in the industry do not know it.
Microfibre cloths neutralise quaternary ammonium disinfectants. QAC molecules are positively charged and bind readily to the negatively charged, enormous surface area of microfibre. The biocide ends up adsorbed onto the cloth instead of delivered to the surface — so the operator does everything right, records a ten-minute dwell, and the surface is not disinfected. The effect is well documented and it gets worse as the cloth is reused.
A pre-saturated wipe carries a known dose of biocide to the surface and is then discarded. That is why wipes give a reliable result where a bucket-and-microfibre system may not, and it is the reason to specify them for high-touch clinical and transport work rather than convenience alone.
The same principle applies to anionic detergent residue. If you have cleaned with an anionic detergent and not rinsed, a QAC applied afterwards will be deactivated. Clean, rinse, then disinfect.
Benefits
- Hospital grade, single step — cleans and disinfects in one pass.
- No dilution, no measuring, no decanting — and no concentrate to handle. See Safety.
- Pleasant fresh fragrance.
- Suitable for food environments.
- Outstanding cleaning power.
- Non-corrosive and suitable on metal surfaces.
- Leaves an active residue that remains effective for hours after cleaning.
- Kills mould.
- Sophisticated anti-microbial blend — a potentiated biocidal package that provides faster and broader kill.
- Penetration — the anti-microbial package is combined with super-wetting technology, enabling the biocide to penetrate more quickly and deeply into porous substrates.
- Eliminates odours at their source by anti-microbial action against odour-causing germs.
- Broad spectrum of activity across a wide range of micro-organisms.
Organisms Covered by the Listing
- Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA / golden staph)
- Escherichia coli
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Proteus vulgaris
- Aspergillus brasiliensis
- Poliovirus Type 1
- SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19 virus)
- Salmonella choleraesuis
Application Areas and Surface Suitability
Disinfects bio-contaminated surfaces affected by dirty water, flood water, sewage, and human and animal body fluids. Kills mould.
- Not to be used on skin.
- Not to be used on medical devices or other therapeutic goods.
A note carried across from the Biosan II concentrate: Actichem advise that Biosan II will affect the stain-resistant treatment on 5th and 6th generation nylon. Wipes are a hard-surface product in normal use, but if you are spot-treating carpet with them, identify the fibre first.
How to Use
- Pre-cleaning and prior removal of organic load will enhance results — organic soil consumes biocide.
- Apply the wipe to the area to be cleaned and disinfected.
- Allow to dry.
Keep the surface visibly wet for the contact time. For the Biosan II formulation that is 10 minutes for full disinfection. On a warm surface a single wipe may flash off well before that — use a second wipe rather than assume.
A note on expectations: wipes remove the two most common causes of a failed disinfection — wrong dilution and a deactivating cloth. They do not remove the third, which is insufficient contact time. That one is still on the operator.
Safety
This is one of the few products in our chemical range that is genuinely not classified, and it is worth stating with evidence rather than asserting it.
Per Safety Data Sheet version 2.2, issued 13 October 2025, Biosan II Wipes are “NON-HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL. NON-DANGEROUS GOODS” under the Model WHS Regulations and the ADG Code.
- Signal word: not applicable — the product is not classified
- No GHS hazard categories and no hazard statements
- HAZCHEM code: not applicable
- Poisons schedule: not applicable
- Transport: not regulated for the transport of dangerous goods — no DG surcharge
- pH: 8 to 9.5. Actichem’s product page states 7.5; we publish the SDS figure. Either way it is close to neutral.
- Active: quaternary ammonium compound blend (twin chain), under 1%
- PPE: the SDS states personal protection is not required, and eye and face protection is not required.
- Incompatible materials: none known
How this compares to the concentrate. Biosan II 5 Ltr is the same chemistry at working strength, but the drum is a corrosive Class 8 dangerous good — signal word DANGER, H314, UN3267, pH 10.5, with goggles and gloves required for decanting and a shipping surcharge. The wipes give you the same listed disinfection with none of that.
| Biosan II Wipes | Biosan II concentrate | |
| Classification | Not classified | Hazardous chemical, dangerous goods |
| Signal word | None | DANGER |
| PPE | Not required | Goggles, neoprene gloves, eyewash access |
| Transport | Not regulated | UN3267, Class 8, PG II — surcharge applies |
| pH | 8 – 9.5 | 10.5 |
| QAC content | Under 1% | Blend, under 10% |
| Cost per treated surface | Higher | Much lower |
First aid, if it is needed: rinse the eye with water if a wipe is pressed into it, and wash hands after use as you would with any cleaning product.
